Anyone live in Ashford?
Discussion
Am looking to move out that way as the OH works in Sunbury. Having looked at house prices, have seen some places in Ashford that look ok and in budget, but wanting a general opinion on what it's like living there. If anyone can suggest other areas that are commutable to Sunbury (OH can't drive) and provide access to London that have similar prices it would also be appreciated.
TIA

I live in Staines and used to live in Ashford; I've been in the general area for years. Ashford High Street is a bit rancid, least it used to be, and there are very few decent pubs (can't think of any actually) but a lot of the residential streets are actually very nice. It's on the line to Waterloo but you can't get to Sunbury by train, it would have to be bus. TIA
Also look at Shepperton and Upper Halliford, these are both nicer (therefore more expensive) but are on the line to Sunbury.
I lived there for a year about 10 years ago, and the previous post is bang on. Absolutely nothing available in Ashford, so you have to visit Staines and other locations for shopping. The residential streets are nice enough.
Train service is patchy at best, Ashford is one of those forgotten stations.

Thanks for the help. Drove around at the weekend, what you've said is bang on. But as somewhere to live seems very quiet. Might have a look around Staines, but not massively hopeful.
Upper Halliford/Shepperton are a little out of budget. Don't really want to move out too far as train fares are ~£3.5k per year and likely to increase!
Thanks for the help guys.

In my opinion from working that area for the last 5 years, I would avoid Ashford and Staines myself. How about Sunbury or Lower / upper Sunbury?Upper Halliford/Shepperton are a little out of budget. Don't really want to move out too far as train fares are ~£3.5k per year and likely to increase!

I spend most of my time in Staines, Ashford and Stanwell so that gives you a clue to what goes on in those areas.
I work on Ashford highstreet.. its a horrible place to be.
as for the area, yeah its pretty quiet just get a few "chav's" from the college thats also on the highstreet.
only plus side is that its overrun with supermarkets
on the highstreet you have a mini Sainsbury's, Tesco, Co-op and just down the road is a big Tesco.
Some of the side roads are very quiet and have some nicer properties
