Hi-Fi/Electronics engineer......??

Had one of those breaking plastic moments today, you know the one, where you're fiddling around the back of some hi-fi and you hear 'that sound' along with the 'boing' of a tiny spring going AWOL.....

Yes, I've broken one of the speaker connectors on the back of my AV amp. One of these red ones....


I'm looking in the SAS area for a shop/engineer who can fix it for me. Any suggestions??

Looked very closed today and appeared to have been for a while so good thought but no go.

Any other suggestions?

Im an electronics engineer in Guildford.
Without the item in front of me its difficult to diagnose.
Worst case, I would hard wire, solder new cable, remove old sockets and extend to new banana type outlets.

Your major problem will be cost. £100 plus parts. Guess parts about £25 (over estimated).

Brian, that's a great help thank you. Basically one of the red plastic retainers has snapped off so the spring has come out and there's no pressure on the cable (only a bit of Blu-Tack now).

It's a 10 year old amp which is not what you could call a 'premium' unit (as you can see from the connections) so I don't think it's worth the investment - I think another look at richersounds may be the next step, there's an Onkyo for £149

I was going to diagnose the same, cheap replaceable stereo, in the bin and off to RS!

Spotted a nice Sony on there - What Hi-Fi 5* award winner for 219. It's got proper connectors too, now I'll have to dig out my banana plugs...

Personally I'd drop the connector panel off, solder a wire to the back and lead it out. With a choc-block to connect that one conductor you'd be in business.

Shhh, don't try a sensible solution - there's possible new technology on the way

Amps and for that matter all electronic equipment goes out of date in 10 minutes from the moment purchased.

Being an Engineer I would suggest Onkyo, Yamaha or Denon amps. Would avoid sony.

There's a hint of brand loyalty there though. I worked for them for 8 years and still have some contacts who may be able to do me a deal...
