Anyone recommend a good curry house somewhere off the M4 (and before I reach Newbury heading west)?

One in Wokingham or heading up towards Maidenhead way would be good as I'm meeting someone travelling from Oxford-ish.

Want to be able to get there easily and park easily - so don't want to be in central Reading or Maidenhead or Slough (don't want to be in Slough ever, in fact). EDITED!

Thanks all
Geoff

Despite you never wanting to be in Maidenhead I can thoroughly recommend the Emperor of India next to the Esso by the Braywick roundabout just off M4 J8/9 Maidenhead. Excellent food, nice atmosphere and friendly owner & staff, decent car park. One of the best and I've eaten in hundreds hehehttp://www.emperorofindia.co.uk/

It's Slough I'm trying to avoid forever. ;-)

It might be a little out of the way, but Mango Lounge in Windsor is very good in my opinion. It´s very close to the Riverside station

There is plenty of choice in Wokingham itself, I don't think I've ever had a 'bad' curry in any of the places in Wokinghan, however the Sultan is always my first choice there: http://www.sultanpalace.co.uk/

In Reading the best curry we've found is http://www.pappadamsreading.co.uk/ you can park outside if you're lucky, not sure what time you stop needing to pay though as we can walk there.

I have lived in Wokingham all my life and done every curry house.
At the end of a beer / curry night, you can't beat the Sultan. However if you fancy a really good meal in a very nice curry house, then The Tamarin Tree is probably the best in town.

Yes, it's good but you should also try the Emporer of India, I rate the food higher.

Hello, I am indeed, did you see the PH stickers or just saw the cars?

Do you drive past every morn/evening?

Just saw the 370Z. I do drive past every morning but mostly in a dark green Mini Cooper, the MX5 (bright red and noisy) is only really used in good weather and for hoons, track days, club drives etc. Mrs has a blue Mini Cooper S Convertible that passes by every day too. We are up on Wildbriar off McCarthy Way.

Reporting back as promised, sir.

Sorry to say, we didn't particularly rate the Emperor of India.

The food was ok to good. Plus points, food was fresh and interesting. Maybe we just chose badly but the main courses were a big let down. My "Lamb Special" was a) far too sweet (for my taste anyway) and b) expensive for what it was, lamb in a sauce. My mate also chose a chicken dish (sorry, forget the name, second one down on the house specialities!) and thought it very average. Think one was £13.50 and the other £13 so not cheap (likewise side dishes at £6ish a pop).

However, what really put us off was the surly service. No proper welcome. We were asked 3 times for our order when we clearly having a pre-dinner chat and obviously hadn't touched the menu (we did order poppadoms and drinks straightaway). Also asked briefly whether we enjoyed our meal but the waiter didn't wait for a reply. I won't go on, you get the point. The fault seemed to lie with the two waiters who CBA. The older male (father?) did say "thank you" from across the bar.

Total bill £60 for two (without booze - both driving) without starters, desserts or tea/coffee.

'Fraid to say we won't be going back.
