Bridge over the canal at Brookwood Lye Road

Any of the local BIB able to give us a clue as to how the canal bridge at the junction of the A324 with Blackhorse Road got so badly damaged ? Having walked past it the other day it looks like someone was very lucky to not end up in the canal ! I can only assume that someone coming from the Brookwood lights lost it on the bend.

One begs the question why that daft layout was ever installed when County already had purchased the land for a larger layout to include a roundabout.
The very way in which the junction operates is an incident waiting to happen.

With regard to the canal bridge and canal itself which sees little or no marine traffic
a lot of money waisted on a fancy stone work bridge.
