I have just sold my Range Rover today, and am smarting at the huge depeciation i have been hit with over the 3 1/2 years since buying it new. I have therefore decided to spend the spoils a little more frugally.

I have admired the way you have flocked to the assistance of other locals, keen for your input, so perhaps you can give me some pointers.

I plan to spend no more than £6k on a daily snotter, to be kept for 12 to 18 months, doing about 10k miles per year.

It needs to be:

A comfortable motorway cruiser, but
Good fun to drive on the twisties
"Respectable" when visiting clients
Reasonably reliable, with low servicing costs
Preferably a nice soundtrack (V8 / V6)
Preferably 4 doors (not essential)

I do not want an estate, nor anything that might be considered a little "chavvy" for my advancing years (Scooby, EVO etc)

Cars i am considering would fit the bill are
BMW 7 or 5 series, Audi A6 or A8. A Merc something or other?

What else should i look at?
All help graciously received, and will be rewarded with alcohol at a hostelry close by!

P.S. i have put some money aside for project "X" , a little something for the Chim once i have it back wink

I reckon this is a steal and ticks all the boxes:

C43 AMG

(ETA: worth an HPI first though as it seems a little too cheap...)

Not sure if it quite fits the non chavvy bit but a great car if you can get one at a decent price. The low volumes in the UK mean it could reasonably hold its value. Big gamble though as it is a Vauxhall at heart and they drop quicker than a turkey at Bernard Matthews.

How about the S6 in the disguise of an A6? They are pretty rare but the brakes/suspension/brakes/engine/horsepower are identical to that of the S6 except it has competition alloys and no 'in your face' wing mirrors or S badges.

Audi S4 bi-turbo? I know they aren't the last word in driver fun, but they look classy, are very comfortable, indecently quick when fitted with a £500 chip, and shouldn't cost the earth to run in comparison to some other german motors!

I agree TC, they do look lovely cars, but never driven one though. Definately added to the list.

Are you going to sell it and buy a Tuscan at last ??
biggrin no way now Lee. The theft made my mind up for me, I've missed the Chim too much. I'm thinking it needs a little BJ, if you know what i meanwink Glad to hear you are back in the seat mate.

yes that's also a possibility Rob. Young Ben was pointing me in the direction of a 4.2.

These are nice, drive the wrong wheels being the only real downside, but then you have the Chim for that

Tried one of these a couple of years ago Sinc. I wasn't too impressed with the feel of the thing. Perhaps i should give one another try?
