Posted here because we'd like the cat to go to someone who lives locally.

We have a 3.5 year old cat called Bleachy. He's a truly remarkably friendly little fella, very much like a little dog who just likes being around people, sitting on their laps or just plain hanging out. As I mostly work from home he's been great company. He's a house cat and has an awful sense of direction, he's been outside twice, got lost both times ending up in neighbour's garden, scared and bemused. Oh yes, little people worry him so he's not really suited to anyone who has kids, grown ups he's cool with.

Since baby #1 got here my wife has gone decidedly anti-cat, 'it's him or us' kind of a thing. So with heavy heart I'm offering him up for free to a good home. The perfect owner would be someone who's at home a lot and can give him a lot of attention, he's very loving and I'd actually be very happy not to give him away if no offers come in smile At least I can say that I did my bit but realistically the wife will keep asking me to move him on.

We'll supply a cat carry case, basket, litter tray 'house' (enclosed), brushes and toys for free.

I read the title and thought you were giving Cat a subtle hint hehe

Seriously though Hewlett what has the cat done to your missus?

I think that is unfair on you and the lovely looking cat tell her cat stays or she goes wink

Is there any reason why she has gone 'anti-cat?' Sorry if it sounds nasty but its a bit harsh to be getting rid of the cat as baby is on the scene? Is she having a 'cats smother babies' moment? If you could find out why she has gone anti maybe there could be a compromise?

Sorry, its mrsxllifts here, just on his computer!

Thanks all for the sentiments and for the offer too, looks like it may all work out smile either way I'll be happy as long as he goes to a good home/stays here - the wife has already offered to do the honourable thing and vacate the house and I've already done the cat vs wife thing in my head:

Cat - quiet, likes my jokes (well he's never commented), doesn't eat much, is happy with the same food every day, can be left alone for several hours without bother, is happy to see you when you return, doesn't mind my snoring, never moans about my driving.

Wife - delightful (she has access to this laptop so I'd better be nice).

Thats not a choice! Get packing her bags hehe

Seriously, it may be worth trying her with the why question, in a nice way, of course!

True, I did and she said:

1. He keeps troubling her for affection when she has her hands full with the baby and I'm away.
2. She's worried about the cat savaging the baby (meet the cat you'd know how ironic that is!)
3. No room here for both (not true).
4. The cat looks huge compared to the baby (but it's a small cat).
5. Her affections are diverted towards bubba.

It's sad but I see her point, 24x7 with the baby, I have to make some concessions. Especially after promising her a Lexus 400h as a birth present and not even having given her a scale model of one so far (Lexus do a 'have one for a weekend' trial and I was going to pull the ''but it's outside dear'' thing on a Saturday but forgot to book it!).

My parents might be interested, dad is now retired so he's around. Will check when I get back from Norwich.

For what it's worth, we used to have a real she-devil of a cat who attacked visitors quite unprovoked. When our daughter arrived she (the cat) was gentle and tolerant, a different animal compared with how she behaved towards adults. The child, as a toddler, was told to be kind to the cat and generally was, but kids can be rough accidentally. The cat never raised a claw to her despite such indignities as tail pulling etc. You'd be surprised...

BTW if you're stuck for a home, PM me. We're currently catless and that's a first for many years.

Fast forward 4 years when your child will say "Mum, I want a cat!", to which you can reply "We had one but your mum didn't get on with it!" wink

Seriously, I hope it works out. We have a small one (3 months) and I don't think we could handle a cat right now, no matter how chilled it might be. Taking on a baby for the first time is bigger than most people realise - at least to begin with.

However, in the future I envisage our house will be full to the brim with livestock of some sort.

I look forward to hearing an update on "cat loves new home".

Sorry you have to rehome the moggy, but I hope it settles in quickly, otherwise I might have to make an offer! biggrin

We have 2 potential back up offers which is excellent, thanks you all.

Btw it's:

'I'm a lay-dee'

Vs

'I'm trying to be cute here god dam ya'

If there was an option to send the cat away to a holiday camp for cats for 18 months I'm sure we'd have him back (the offer is there for whoever has him..)

Is there no way of having a cat room filled with fun things to do whilst Dad is at work and Mum is busy doing baby things? That way feline and baby could be introduced gradually which would be good for both and deal with the attention weings of the cat who as harsh as it sounds is used to having two humans at his beck and call and now has to share your attentions the the new arrival.
