Hi,

My fronts are pretty worn down now, especially the front left (roundabouts drivingbiggrin ), so I need some replacements preferably fitted locally(ish) to Maidenhead/Reading.

I currently have Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3s, and they're 195/45 R17. I can't find anything else to replace them in this size, but I've heard new GSD3s are rubbish quality as they're no longer made in Germany. I'm happy with the one's I have at the moment.

Any suggestions?

Or Event Mobile Tyres who will come to you (and are based in Henley anyway).

That's bks about the GSD3s if you ask me, I had some of the supposed 'bad' ones before I got the new wheels and asymetric ones they still seemed as good as ever to me.

Would have said Bracknell tyres as always but it will be too late for today if you need them in a hurry, I think lots of the locals have found event mobile tyres or the other mobile ones to be really good.

Don't have any strong suggestions on what tyre to go for Robbie. I've had two new fronts fitted this morning as it happens (PE2 Michelins as before). FWIW it did look like I'd struggle to source PE2s' again so I did consider Continental Sport Contact 2 for a while. They are the replacement to the Contis' that were OE on my car and supposed to be reasonably good from reviews I've read (EVO tyre test being one) and are cheaper the PE2s'.

As to where to get them fitted. Bracknell Tyre and Battery gave me the best quote.......which was great except they did'nt have any and could'nt tell me when they would! biggrin Micheldever (sp?) were a close second but again had none! Ended up getting them at a local place in Caversham that price matched to within a few quid.

Suggest you go on Mytyres and Blackcircles to get competitive online quotes first off.

Ah, just checked and the only tyre i can find in the same size apart from the GSD3 is the Yokohama S-drive. No idea if they're any good but they're a lot more expensive.

What width wheels have you got?

Seems to be a lot more choice in a 205/45R17, which shouldn't affect your speedo much (i suspect it underreads significantly at the moment right?) and will fit on a 7" rim (doubt you'd have anything narrower than a 7" at a guess).

I have no idea how wide the standard wheels are, and I can't find anything online. I could get a ruler out?

Yeh I'm 90% sure they're 7" wide wheels.

What would you recommend at 205/45?

Something like a Toyo T1R or Continental SportContact 2
About £100 each and £116 each from Event Mobile Tyres (fitted, they come to you).

If you need them today it might be worth giving Montys a call.

Not sure on the what tyre but I have also used Event Tyres in the past and they've been great. Decent quote and turned up on time.
