Suddenly decided today that my life would be much better if my garden had some railway sleepers in it, I know there have been a couple of threads on here about them... So I was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction to get some good value used examples.

Ta very muchly...

They sell them at Chessington Garden Centre. Or they did 4 years ago when I last visited a garden centre. They might not be good value for money, however.

There's a reclamation yard in between Cow Lane bridges in Reading; opposite the old British Rail depots.

They used to do them and certainly worth a look. I'm over that way later today so will pop in on the way past if you want and have a quick look?

Hi Mark,

Second hand railway sleepers are very frowned upon these days as they carry all sorts of nasty contaminants in them that seep into the soil and can cause problems.

I only use new ones now, similar price anyway.

I use http://www.challengefencing.com/default.aspx?Locat...

Good luck thumbup

Hi, they have loads - prices ranging from 20 to 24 quid depending on new or reclaimed. Price will also vary depending on quantity required...

Another thanks to James, ordered mine yesterday, and as I don't have a pick up to carry stuff around in, he'll be dropping them off tonight.

That's some impressive springs you got on that truck. Twelve sleepers and they don't look compressed at all yikes

They're not made out of Balsa are they? wink

I think they compressed about 10mm-15mm The sleepers are def not Balsa.. lol... Here is the front, but the rear has a similar setup with additional Deaver uprated leaf springs smile
