Irish Guards on parade in Windsor – travel and parking information
Residents and visitors are expected to be out in force in Windsor on Wednesday 6 May when the 1st Battalion Irish Guards will be on parade for a special ceremony at which Her Majesty The Queen will present the regimental colours.
More than 500 members of the regiment will march from their base at Victoria Barracks to Windsor Castle and both the event itself and its rehearsal the previous day (Tuesday 5 May), will have temporary implications for residents and businesses along the parade route and also in some adjoining streets.
However, the council will be working closely with Thames Valley Police to manage these occasions so that both can be enjoyed by everyone, while ensuring that Windsor town centre can operate as normally as possible, and that road closures are kept to a minimum.
On both days:
there will be two short road closures to allow the regiment to parade to and from the castle – between 10am to 10.35am and again from 11.20am to 11.55am.
· parking, loading / unloading and pick up / set down will be suspended from 7am to 1pm on the normal Guard Change sections of Sheet Street, High Street, Park Street and Thames Street. Vehicles left in these areas during these times will be removed.
· All council car parks will operate normally.
As usual, the council will provide free alternative parking for resident permit holders at Victoria Street multi-storey car park from 7pm on Monday 4 May until 9am on Thursday 7 May.
Owners / managers of businesses in the affected streets are being asked to make sure that their staff, suppliers and customers are aware of these temporary arrangements.
Drivers are asked to be aware of the short road closures and allow extra time for their journeys during the mornings of 5 and 6 May.
Further information about the arrangements is available from Ian Hunt, democratic services manager, on 01628 796186 or (for car parking information) from Neil Walter, parking manager, on 01628 796485.
