SASers: name that route: A3 / M25 - Frome?
Discussion
Hi guys, have posted in the South Coast forum but knowing how knowledgable you lot are with the roads, I thought I'd ask here
What's the best route from the A3 / M25 junction to Frome, Wiltshire, assuming:
- evening rush hour traffic;
- wanting to stretch the car's legs; and
- minimise my meeting unmarked BIBs?
I should add, whilst I would prefer to hoon the whole way, I haven't got the time to do the whole thing like that, although I could be persuaded....
Would be very happy to avoid the M3 (dull) but not a must.
Thanks

Used to go 'sperlunking' down in Marmoset (they can't touch you for it), and always via Frome.
A3 to Guildford
A31 (Hogs Back) to Farnham
Little bit of A325 north (couple of r/bouts) then left at lights onto A3016 which becomes A287 towards Odiham and M3 J5 (or go straight down M3
)
M3 J5 west (obv) to J8 and A303
A303 to Stonehenge and take the right before the 'Enge onto A344 (if traphic at this point is dire, could take right at previous r/bout (north) and work round via Larkhill)
At Shrewton take left onto B390 through Chitterne
Right onto A36 at 3rd r/bout take left onto A362 (past Longleat) and onto Frome!
Ok, not the most back routes way possible, but some great bits over the plain.
Thankfully you're not going as far as Green Ore where the Caving Club was, as past Frome, half the roads weren't even B roads. Good Fun tho'.

What day?
What time you planning to leave?
How long you got for the trip?

It'll be after work but not long
Thanks for all the responses guys !
As it turned out with 30 miles of traffic on the M25 and the A3 seemingly blocked after Guildford, I was very grateful for the suggestions! I ended up mixing up many of the suggestions and the route was traffic free! The route along the A30 to Salisbury and then the A360 / B390 through Chitterne were excellent
Thanks again!

Thanks again!
