Hiya,

Just wanted to say thanks to all of you living around the Reading area who helped us out with advice and info during our house search. We've just had an offer accepted on a place in Tilehurst. smile

The only potential downside is that I checked for planning applications before we went off on hols a couple of weeks ago - nothing significant. Just looked again today, and some git has submitted an application last week for 750 houses, a school and all the rest of it less than 1 km away!! But it's across woodlands and fields, so at least not right on the doorstep. But I swear, the planners must be following us around!! If anyone feels like writing a letter of objection to the application, I'd be happy to provide you with details. wink

So anyway. Give us a wave if you see us in our big white Volvo - we're going to do some driving around the area this weekend to look at the area and see what we're letting ourselves in for.

Thanks everybody. beer

No doubt this is merely the start of a series of threads titled:

"Electrician in Tilehurst, anyone know one?"
"What does one have to do to get a drink around Tilehurst?"
and
"Don't suppose anyone would like to lend me a van, would they?"

hehe

Seriously, thanks for the offers of help. I may well be on the scrounge for info before very long! smile

Thanks Puggit! beer

Bloody developers. Fed up with them. irked Every single house we liked in the Wokingham area was rejected because of the new developments going in everywhere. I kind of thought Tilehurst would be different. frown

Sweeney Todds - That would be the best Pie shop since I don't know when! It's on Castle St in Reading. The TV&S crew meet there a lot, no special reason needed. Not sure when we're next there but if you keep an eye on the forum I'm sure there will be a thread along shortly. It would be an ideal time to come meet the reprobates your moving near!

Mmm, pie! hehe

Thanks for the heads-up, we'll have a look at it. Certainly sounds like my kind of place! We don't know anyone in the area, so it's all a bit of an adventure...

Au contraire, me dear - we spent half of last night poking around various websites, trying to work out what's going where. wink

It seems the roads to and from the new development won't come our way, but we'll be at the top end of Withy Copse so it'll be close by. I think we're just going to have to live with the disruption over the build period. frown

I have to wonder, though - if 35% of new homes there are going to be "affordable", are the other 65% going to be classed as "unaffordable"??
