Imber's 150 inhabitants were evicted in 1943 to provide training grounds for the military.

Normally the village is within a security restricted area of Salisbury Plain, however the army have opened up the village and surrounding area for public access for a couple of weeks until 6th September.

So... does anyone fancy an early run over on Sunday or Monday to have a look around and try out some of the surrounding military roads - many of which you'll recognise from Top Gear as this is where Clarkson frequently goes for filming on country roads where the 'script' calls for >60mph.

The village is open to the public, however normal military range rules apply to and from the village, i.e. stay on the road!

This wasn't the location for the TG Boxster vs. SLK Shootout was it? With the Marines? Just looked a little familiar. Looks like great fun though! Would be really interesting to have a snoop around and a bit of a hoon through that land.

Not sure, but very likely as TG use the surrounding roads quite a lot...

I might be able to do Monday, although in theory I should be doing reports from the previous days races!

I'd already half suggested a dash to the coast on Sunday morning, however this could be fun if it ends up being early Sunday.

If the weekend brings nice weather, we are camping in Norfolk. If it rains on Saturday then we won't go, so I'll be in!
