Well as most of youknow the 320d tried a itself at lumber jacking to its detrement.

For the restrictions placed on what car it was a great and Scotland showed it was more than most people expected.

I need to replace it once the insurance comes through so what else is out there......

Circa £6.5k (depends on Insurance)
Reasonable residuals may only be a short termer...
153 or less Co2's
4 door
Diesel

Must have a great chassis, preffer RWD, and cope with a w/e touring

Found these two, both more expensive than mine..?

Isn't the Fabia VRS supposed to be quite a weapon for what it is? Or how about a SEAT?
I think the only way you'll get all that in a rwd chassis is to buy another 320d!!

Dave - get a company friendly st-box that meets their green credentials (old diesel fiesta or something) and then spend the rest on something for the weekend... I do most of my business/station/office miles in a £1500 VW Passat!

Example 'company' car (got one of these for a mate 12 months ago and it's not put a foot wrong and costs him practically nothing to run...). Probably find a good one at auction for a lot less!:

VRs will hold the value well however compared to the BMW I don't think you will like the handling.

Whenever I get in the VRs having driven the S2 it feels like driving a bus that leans and rolls a lot and generally scares me with huge amounts of understeer.

I've seen them for less than that at BCA recently, not worth £500 that one.

Nice toy car thumbup

I think this best of both worlds idea is a great approach. Something cheap as a runaround, low tax and reliable, then a weekend fun machine. The 320d was stretched as much as you could get it without spending big money on it. IMO This M3 is a great base to start from for such little money (edited for clarity - 6k is not a small amount of money, but it does buy you a lot of car!).

So Dave, I think a 172 Cup would be right up your street. I just happen to know of an example. One carefull owner, never raced or rallied, runs like a dream whistle
