Evening all,

I've just bought a BMW Z3 and, being not the slightest bit interested in getting my own hands dirty, I'm after a recommendation for a decent mechanic to look after it in the Sunningdale, Windsor, Ascot (SL5) area.

Would also be appreciative of recommendation for someone to give the soft top a bit of attention - nothing major, just a bit of seam work around the rear window.

Thanks y'all,
Kirsty

I used to recommend a BMW specialist in Wokingham but after recent experiences i won't be doing that again...

I believe there's a place in or near Sunningdale that sells BMWs and Mercs and things, might be worth popping in and asking who they use?

If the initials are MM what problems do you have with them? We use them you see and I have my doubts! If it's not too much trouble I'd appreciate a PM if you don't want to say on here.

And was only around the corner from you, when you were on Cedar Drive!

And if you are looking for a dealer, I have nothing but good things to say about Wood BMW (Hook).

Strange, but true!

Be curious to hear this too, I was going to book the E30 in there...

Without putting too fine a point on it - a job was quoted, work was done, didn't fix the problem, they did more, charged more, didn't fix the problem, and so on. Ended up costing WAY more than first quoted. I have spoken to a couple of other people and had similar experiences.

As an example (purely fictional): quoting 4 hours for a job and then charging 8 hours to do it and saying it took 12. If you quoted 4 then i expect to pay for 4. If you think it'll take 4 to 8 hours then tell me that before you start. And if you aren't sure that will fix it then say that BEFORE YOU START.

Hope that doesn't contravene any naming and shaming rules since i haven't actually mentioned anyone specific.

As verysideways says, i was a recent victim. Not just once, which was a couple of years ago, but more fool me i got caught a second time too. Similar pattern on both occasions.
To be done over once could be interpreted as unlucky, but twice paperbag

PM me if you want more information, but i wouldn't hesitate in advsising people to take their business elswhere.

Can live without the details, I would be curious to know who is recommended though?

Replace parts until fault disappears. Sounds like they've to more of a dealer style method of fault diagnosis then. Surely this is one of the main reasons people move away from main dealers in the first place.

Hello Kinky! I still am on Cedar Drive! It's only been nearly three years, I really must get around to saying hello some time!

Thanks for the recommendation by the way.

Sorry K - I could have sworn you'd moved.

You'll have to come to an SAS night out (drink and food and more drink).

Give us a wave next time you pass wavey

I gave the Elise back to it's rightful owner around 18 months ago, and have been inconspicuous in my roller-skate of a Hyundai Amica since then so that may be why you thought I'd moved! Picked up the Z3 at the weekend though and am now happily tootling around as a roadster girl again!

Would be good to meet a few folks soon.
