STATE VISIT 23 AND 27 OCTOBER 2009

You may already be aware of the State Visit to Windsor of the President of India taking place on Tuesday 27 October 2009. My purpose in writing to you is to give you advance warning of some of the arrangements being put in place for this event and how it may affect you. I enclose an information booklet prepared jointly by the Council and Thames Valley Police which I hope will answer many of the questions you may have about this event but please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

• Her Majesty the Queen will greet the President at 12.00hrs in a specially prepared pavilion at the Windsor and Eton Riverside Station. From there a ceremonial procession will move along the Datchet Road, Thames Street, High Street, Park Street, onto the Long Walk and through Cambridge Gate.
• This entire route will be controlled by barriers and will be strictly controlled by the Police who will be discussing the implications with those businesses and residences affected.
• No traffic will be allowed into the area closed off from 09.45hrs and this will include delivery vehicles, buses and taxis. It is anticipated that the roads will be opened again by mid afternoon.
• It is important to note that these arrangements will be rehearsed on Friday 23 October at exactly the same times.
• The roads referred to above and surrounding roads will all be closed off and all vehicles must be removed from the area by 00:01hrs on Friday 23 October, and then again by 00:01hrs on Tuesday 27 October. Please check the signage nearer the time for the extent of the closures or refer to the booklet
• The barriers lining the processional route will be erected from 00:01hrs on Friday 23 October for the rehearsal and all vehicles must be removed from the area by that time. The barriers will then be taken down on the afternoon of 23 October and erected again from 00:01hrs on Tuesday 27 October. Similarly, all vehicles must be removed from the area at that time. The company erecting the barriers are very well aware of the residential nature of the roads and will be making every effort to minimise any noise.
• As usual in these circumstances, arrangements have been made for alternative free parking in Victoria Street Car Park for residents displaying parking permits from 18.00hrs on Thursday 22 October until 18.00hrs on Saturday 24 October, and from 18.00hrs on Monday 26 October to 06.00hrs on Wednesday 28 October.

Both prior to and after the procession there will be troop movements which will also necessitate temporary road closures.

A number of car parks will have restrictions on their use for the two days – these are detailed in the booklet. Season ticket holders for the affected car parks can use their tickets in any other council car parks available.

The Council is working closely with the Royal Household and the Police to ensure this event goes smoothly and we will make every effort to keep disruption to a minimum.

Please allow me to thank you in advance for your co-operation and do feel free to email or call me if you would like more details about the event and the arrangements being put in place. Information is also available on our website www.rbwm.gov.uk
