Is it allowed for me to post about a police van parked up in the middle of the Showcase roundabout at 9.30 this morning? Didn't have anything printed on it about being 'mobile speed enforcement' or whatever, but the blacked out rear windows were pointing straight at me as I rounded the corner from Lower Earley Way towards A329M.

Think I'd have been doing about 55 (speedo) in a 40. Relatively shortly after coming out of the national speed limit zone, although not trying to justify it (well, not much).

Will be checking post carefully for the next few weeks, but fully expecting £60 and 3 points. Fortunately will be my first points, but still not a great start to the day!

Go careful if you're round them parts today...

Could have just been ANPR?

I belive its a ANPR / Tax van, they had one just past the roundabout by the hotel/mill roundabout a few years back. I went past to notice a Police motorbike catching up with me very quickly. Aparently i had no tax although it was in my window screen. The office gumbled and left me alone.

It probably is ANPR, but the number 1 priority for Jan through Feb is a focus on speeding. Keep an eye out for a load of grannies with hair driers as the community speedwatch is being stepped up.

Hoping it is / was ANPR, although I didn't see any bikes or cars nearby that I'd have expected to catch and confiscate any cars that were 'hits' on their systems.

Have to hold my hands up and say I was speeding, and even if nothing drops through the letterbox it's probably had the desired effect in that I'll be watching my speedo more carefully in coming weeks / months. Some would argue that would mean I'm spending less time looking at the road, but as I'm sure we all know it's speed kills, not careless / inattentive / bad driving... rolleyes

I suspect I may be sounding bitter today!

I didn't notice it this morning (coming from the same route albeit a little earlier) but I would have thought that it's more likely to be an ANPR camera if it was actually on the junction.. simply placed to 'see' as many vehicles as possible as it's a busy junction.

Fingers crossed anyway!

Cheers. Definitely would make more sense to have been ANPR, since it's a busy junction that I don't think many cars would even have the opportunity to speed towards, let alone actually do so. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the number of speeders this morning was 1...! Just concerned because I didn't spot any cars / bikes nearby.

Oh well - keeping them crossed and will update in 3 weeks...!

Well if they only caught 6 people speeding in one hour
Thats £360 p/hr or £2880 per 8 hour shift.

Not a bad profit from a 50k investement with two operatives
I cant even get near that with a 200k vehicle per hour.

This van was parked near the just tiles roundabout (woodley) yesterday lunchtime no doubt making money.

Now over 21 days since I approached a policevan at marginally higher than the 'safe' limit, and my doormat and licence both remain clean!

Guess it was ANPR after all, and I've wasted some perfectly good swearing and buttock clenching in the meantime! Now forgetting about it, and looking forward to next weekend's hoon! driving

ETA: name change since initial posting! No schizophrenia here! Or here!

There's another close by, but I'm not sure what it's for. If you go straight over that roundabout then take a right at the next right it's in the bus lane, or at least it was at about noon today.
