Best Roads for a Blast

Probably been asked a thousand times before but the search is down and I was looking for some roads closer to home.

I'm not to far from Woking, what are the best roads for a little bit of fun . So far I've got the pirbright bends and some of the roads past and around fairoaks.

Can anyone recommend any really good ones that preferably aren't littered with blind corners.

I'm 17 and being passed only 4 months realise that talent is somewhat lacking, and also realise that an orange skoda is no caterham but a good few roads to practice on would be rather lovely .

For god's sake please take it carefully around the Pirbright bends until you know them better, or have more experience, the last thing needed is another car into a tree!!! (Hmmm, i'm starting to sound old!!!) Oh and make sure its not icy! Several cars have come a cropper over the last few days because of ice along that road!!

Chobham to Englefield Green, Old Windsor, Windsor Great Park, Holyport, Binfield, Wokingham, Crowthorne, Ascot, Chobham is a good hours drive out with plenty of mixed roads. Having only passed your test 4 months ago you just need to get out there without exceeding your abilities, practice makes perfect.

Live round the corner from the Frimley Green end - between myself and the Mrs probably seen over half a dozen cars 'off' since the first snow in Jan!

Which Orange Skoda, is it Mid engined RWD?

We have lots of great roads around here, my personal fav is Westfield Road that runs from Windlesham to the A30 then take a left and another head up Snows Drive back on to School Road (you don't go past the school though) and back into Windlesham, go past the memorial ground take a right then a left, left again and then another great run down towards Chobham left again and down that road * (can never remember the name) it's got some great undulating bits then right to the roundabout. Then you have three choices and I always take which ever one anyone in front of me doesn't. Right goes to Chobham, but keep a keen eye out for horses, straight on to Chertsey/Egham or left to Sunninghill.... the possibilities are endless and I've prob not gone further than a few miles as the crow flies from my home.

That is how I do my run to the bakers of a morning HTH

ETA to get to those roads from Woking head up to the main road to Chobham but just past the Funeral place take a right and follow that road over the single track humpback bridge, a beautiful wier on your left as you approach, keep left, turn left and then take the next right by the white house follow that road take another left and then at the cross roads straight on brings you to * and you can start from there :-)

Not so much roads to hammer down more to enjoy (esp as I maybe coming the other way :-0 )

ETA AGAIN I haven't pointed out the T junctions but if I've said a turning assume it's a t junction as some can come up on you a bit quick so keep your wits about you :-)

That is a fantastic route, i would advise being careful on the Great Park road until you know the camber as it is open, well sighted in parts and can be very very quick, it is on my commute and i reckon it has claimed 2 cars a month for the last year. The roads from 5ways/old Woking to longcross and around Chobam common are also good fun for a quick blast.

I might even be up for a convey next week if anyone else if free during the day?

So far I've only been down twice, and discovered a mild bit of lift off oversteer through being stupid. Learnt my lesson, a friend of a friend was killed down there not to long ago. I haven't been back since, and wouldn't dream to do so until the weather warms up a little.

Lift off oversteer at speed? My Swift hangs its rear out if I'm and idiot and lift off, but I've only had it happen on roundabouts intentionally. I'm not much older than you, but be careful lifting off mid bend in these conditions as I find the grip varies wildly. On the way home from a midnight run in London I thought I'd go straight ahead at a wet roundabout with a little bit of lift off oversteer, but instead ended up going all the way round it with the car perpendicular to the greasier than expected roundabout - I still don't quite get how I saved that one.

Still, I've never had the back end out when driving on a road hard, I just try and stay smooth where possible.

You should come along on one of the hoons and ride shotgun with someone, then you'll get to see the best roads around whilst riding in a nice car (I did this for about a year until I got the SSS).

In my moment of stupidity I braked just as I came over the crest and had to turn into the corner and the back just came loose, and a dab too much oppo resulted in a small tank slapper all was fine, except my trousers. I won't be doing that again in a hurry.

Basingstoke to Alton road - where all the bikers go to die, really nice road if you can get it with no other traffic on.

Also never get cocky, conditions change, whether that might be surface or traffic etc.

+1. Took the words right out of my mouth. This was great fun even when I had my 1.7 TDI Punto (and even better fun in the Scoob). There aren't many blind corners but there's a bit of a dearth of decent overtaking points if you get stuck behind a numpty. However I'd happily turn around and do it again until I got a clear crack at it

That is lift off oversteer. Sounds like you have a basic understanding of why you ended up sideways though, which certainly helps!

Can't stand text speak! Why, when you have the whole alphabet in button form at your fingertips? But then I'm not really a normal 17 year old, for one I can't be bothered with alcohol and incorrect use of english drives me up the wall.

Yeah I'd like to think I do, as long as I get the grades I'm off to Warwick in October to do Automotive Engineering.
