Another "what car" thread
Discussion
Thanks to verysideways I am now hell bent on finding a new car. Must be convertible and automatic - max £10k most driving will be daily 50 mile M4 commute. Am drawn towards 4 seats but wouldn't rule out 2 if it was the right car. If you have any suggestions, please can you also let me know what to look for on them. Am having a day out today and am looking at Merc CLK, SLK, Saab 93, Volvo C70 and Jag XK8

Thanks everyone. We have had an eventufl day out today which ended in us getting a lift home from the RAC recovery truck. I have looked at the BMW 3.25 which I liked but not quite as much as the Mercs. Looked at the Jag XK8 which was beautiful but something not quite right with the driving position as in having to accomodate my legs and reach the steering wheel at the same time. Looked at a nice SLK but after a little dithering didn't quite have that something in the way that the silver CLK 430 AMG next to it did.

Have ruled out the Boxsters as have been told by several people that the autos are crap but if anyone knows differently please let me know. Have a bit of an issue with the Z4 as I always think it looks like someone has rammed it from behind. Didn't get to look at the Saab and the Volvo but thanks for the tip regarding the understeer. The quest continues so would be grateful for your continued thoughts. Looks like could still be CLK 430 at top of the list so keep eyes open for a bargain!

I think the 2.7 or 2.5 felt a bit underwhelming on the auto, but the 3.2 is a vast improvement... Certainly a nice place to be for a 50 mile commute, with a decent shove when you want to make some progress.
(it's certainly on my short list now to try one when looking for a 'cheap' daily snotter...
