Afternoon all,

Thought I ought to post this in here for a more "local" response!

Not used any garages in the are for an MOT before, so looking for someone who'll do a decent job without the "ooh - you need new discs & pads sir".

Not for anything flash - just my old ratty Rover and the O'H's Freelander.

Thanks,
Steve

I used these guys for my last MOT on my old Clio (after being recommended on here for some other work). Seemed decent chaps. I intend to use them from now on for MOT. Not super local to Pangbourne so there may be somewhere closer more suitable.

Thanks John,

Have been told that Stan-Rod Motors (MOT only place) near the Bentley garage are ok so will try them.

Expensive and will fail your car for just about anything - borderline or not...

been using Stanrod since they set up in Pangbourne (and before that in Woodcote) and can't relate to the quote above.

Just my experience

Fair enough, I used them once and they failed my car as it had a 'non-standard' exhaust and a chip in the windscreen which looked like it 'may' crack... Passed at the next place with no comment on the exhaust or screen at all. But as I said, I only used them once and it was quite a while ago. However; OVER £50 for an MOT is extortionate!

Isn't the max MOT cost £54 now? Have to admit I've been used to paying £40, which was better.

Glad I'm not alone in recommending Steve at Stanrod.

He has got all 4 of my TVR's through an MOT, which is nothing short of a miracle !!

Just to follow up on this, Freelander went in for it's MOT yesterday at StanRod at 8 am; all done & dusted by 8.30. One advisory for a slight weep on the OSR damper.

Nice chaps, and the first time I've ever stayed and watched the test being done; interesting - especially the rev up for Diesels!

Cost was, as mentioned before, the standard £54, although I think they said that price is set to rise in April following the DOT (or whoever's in charge) putting it up!

Edit to add location!!
