Guys and gals, I'm in need of some help. Admiral multicar who have insured me for the last 3 years have decided that they would like to double my premium for this year, which is nice.

So I'm on the hunt for a decent insurance company as everywhere I turn on line want 4 figures for me and the Boxster. Not bad if you were to imagine I had 9 points and a ban, liked ripping the heads of bunnies, crash every other week and have an outstanding CCJ.

However, I've got a clean license and 11 years NCB, which seems to count for nothing at the moment.

Flux wanted nearly a grand with the "PH discount".

I've been with a-plan before. I'll give them a call

Give Bell a try. They are part of the elephant/admiral group I believe, but have always been cheaper than any other for me. Even on the TVR.

I'll give them a try, but I suspect they will be in the same ballpark as Admiral.

Also try Swiftcover... They were cheapest by far for the RS6; not even a-plan got close.

Bell wanted over £1100...

Swiftcover were quite cheap, but they wanted me to activate my Tracker, which makes them more expensive.

So far Tesco's are leading the way, with £750 which isn't too bad. I'll give A-Plan and a few others a call in the week.

I really would give A Plan a call.
And then make sure that they're not going to use 'markerstudy' to underwrite your policy!

Used to be with Admiral too - but some random "mark" came up one year against me. Someone had made a claim against me. They investigated, confirmed there was no claim, and that I knew nothing about it, but refused to budge on their revised increase in my premiums!? So binned them and moved to A-Plan.

Checked thoroughly with A-Plan and they confirmed I have no "mark" against me in the real world - just at Admiral.

Found A-Plan to be good, so far smile (touch wood)

Thats a shame, they are quite a good company to deal with, as long as you don't get the dodgy off shore call centre. Depends on the car alot too, if some companies have had to pay out alot of money on particular car, they charge more to insure it. For example bell quote me nearly double for a Civic Type R than the do on my Cerb laugh

If it's any consulation I've been getting some funny quotes over the last few days / weeks. It seems a fault claim makes them want me to bend over that much further!

The stupid thing is that up to about 3 weeks ago I was (long story why) able to get quotes for about £600 on a Nissan GT-R from Elephant!

Those premiums look horrendous, Mark!

I was insured with Elephant up until October of last year but their renewal quote wasn't at all competitive so I decided to shop around. I gave Adrian Flux a try and they quoted me £800 so I contacted a PHer (Matt@Flux I think?) who ran a quote out for me and got the price down to a little under £500 which is not bad considering the modifications page was fairly extensive and their policy is to replace like for like in the event of an accident.

For what it's worth, I'm 25 years old with 8 years NCB and live in West London.

I'll drop Matt a line, they have already quote me over £1100 for the car. Something tells me they won't take pity on me!

You could try Sky Insurance http://www.skyinsurance.co.uk/car_insurance.html. They're one of the companies I try when it comes to renewal time; I was with them last year. Usually get discount for club membership but I don't see any Boxter/Porsche clubs on their list, but you could tell them you're a member of PH!
