has any one used car gears in woodley, got a whining noise from the gearbox (kicked the girlfreind out and it was still there) planing to get the gearbox reconditioned as vxl want £1200 for a new box

Not used the one in Woodley but can recommend the Gearboxman, aka Competition Transmissions. They rebuilt, shot-peened and cryogenically treated mine after I lunched the old box. Also plumbed in the fittings for an oil cooler for less than you've been quoted.

John at car gears is first rate no bull will tell you strait , we have used them for 15 yrs or so

i spoke to john at car gears, sound like a good bloke, unfortunatly he wont take the job on something to do with parts, he recomended 3d transmissions in reading, there going to recondition gearbox for £435

I used 3D for a auto box recon 2 years ago
and its still going strong. They also offer warranty and ongoing servicing if required.
