I've always liked small mid engined cars and..

http://www.javansportscars.com/index.htm

With a roof made of carbon fibre, the honda engine taken to it's maximum with a supercharger (400bhp?).

670kg + 400bhp = 597bhp/tonne, there's been nothing on PH about this Co since 2006 as far as I can see.

£20K + £5K for a supercharger and it's faster than a Veyron (ish)

Not sure I believe the 3.6sec 0-62mph time. Even with mega power to weight that is some serious traction off the line.

Personally I'd rather have a Honda'd or Audi'd S1 Elise for my £30k. They weigh around 700kg with a K-Series.

Very Baby Veyron if it tops out at 140mph!

The 3.2 is a daft idea in an elise IMO. You'd be way better off with 260-270 bhp from a stock 1.8T. Good effort for trying though.

Hmmm, you can get a lot of power from those Golf engines, 742bhp in this instance:

1000bhp/tonne? I guess you'd need slightly larger rear wheels smile

You'd have SERIOUS cooling issues in an Elise with anything that silly IMO. You can get 450bhp+ bhp out of the 1.8 if you really want but again cooling will get silly.

I agree. 3.2 is too heavy and high in the chassis. Sounds fantastic though and I have seen footage of it going round Brands at a fair old lick.

Personally I think 200-odd bhp from a CTR/Duratec lump would be quite adequate and serious fun in an Elise. I just feel the character of an NA engine would suit the car better for some reason (not that I have any first hand experience to back this up).

You're probably right John, I think if the M3 had the torque delivery of the S3 I'd have spun backwards into a ditch at very high speed by now... so I'm all for NA power and the flat torque curves! hehe

not quite an apples with apples comparison as I have a VX (but close enough), partial throttle is the only real downside of a turbo in such a light car, gets a little unsettled, but then I only noticed this at 300bhp (and 320lb ft), was fine at 200bhp smile

BTW 200 horses got boring very quickly wink

Given the choice again, I'd have supercharged a vx rather than buy a turbo, maybe a touch slower but smoother

Thats 200 horses pulling an extra 100kg in your VX though wink

I do realise that one can become accustomed to any level of power. Quite happy with a mere 160bhp myself!

I notice the Elise article on the PH front page says the 700kg weight is a dry weight, ie a bit of a fib. Well my cars need oil, petrol etc anyway wink

I'm talking about an S1 Elise not an S2/VX220 or an S2 facelift as is on the PH front page. They have put on weight over the years, partly by the adoption of Toyota engines. Thats why I mentioned the K-series.

I've witnessed a fully road ready S1 Elise being weighed on corner weights and it was around the 700kg figure (I say around as my memory is st).

Touche! tongue out

S160 is claimed to be 715kgs, and mine is just over 900, so will be giving away a little more than 100kgs, but I would take Lotus weight claim with a pinch of salt - they were aiming for 550kgs so missed that by a mile!
