Chancellors own solicitors are based in Kingston, and have quoted £810 legal fees. Does this sound about right?

Use a conveyancer, half the price. We used these:

I've used Barlow Robbins in Guildford no issues there.

Let us know how you get on.

By the way, did you ever use the Farnborough Volkswagen Centre?

I used a chap called Sam Buchannan and would have no problem recommending him, based in Wooburn Green so localish.

http://www.buchanansonline.com/

He's a small operator but the benefit is he is personally involved from start to finish, i.e your not a file that gets compiled by a trained monkey only to perused at the last minute by someone with actual proper training.... at which point 101 other problems arise.

Quote came back much the same as the agency one. £570 + VAT + about £100 of other fees.

I never went to Farnborough in the end, as the same day as you posted up someone in the aircooled VW scene recommended an even more local aircooled specialist to me (Berkshire Bugs, near Binfield/ Hurst). They did some steering/ suspension work for me, plus a service, for VERY reasonable money. Highly recommended if anyone has an old bug or bus that needs cared for! Cheers for the Farnborough name anyway, its in my phone for future vw emergencies hehe

Ah well, worth a try, I used them 12 months ago and found them to be more expensive than the online conveyncers but cheaper then solicitors.

However there was also the bonus that my purchase was dealt with by one person throughout who I was able to phone directly and drop in to the office to sign stuff meaning I maintained control.

I'd suggest whoever you deal with make sure their local and you can put a face to a name so you don't get messed about.

Thanks for that. We had a rubbish experience with another local firm, so that's a useful one to have bookmarked.

A very good bunch, almost opposite my office.

Ask for Nicky Griffiths.

We decided to go with Prospect's recommendation as they said they had someone in-house in their branch.

We've been dealing with a numpty based in Birmingham who insists everything goes by post - and half of it has been 'lost'.

Avoid Blakemores, on Prospect's recommendation...
