I'll let you know what reply I get...
Dear Mr Smith,
We have visited, on many occasions, your pub, The Windmill and usually have an enjoyable meal there. However last night we left far less happy than you would wish. Why? Because we ordered two smaller portions of pasta and meatballs and found that, for £7.00 (£6.95 to be exact) we received 2 (TWO) meatballs per meal. Now I know these are smaller portions but two is taking us and your other customers for fools. I complained and was brought two more, one for each meal. However I was also charged for these, just £2. I’d have left a larger tip!! As it was I didn’t bother. Nice though The Windmill is, it is far from the only place to eat in the area.
I would be fascinated to hear what explanation (aside from taking us for fools that is) you have for this.

The Bee around the corner is or used to be run by a PHr, the foods probably even better and I think even more expensive. How big were the meatballs btw, normal sized, golf ball, or tennis ball, if it's the latter then maybe they are on stronger ground 
The 3M does pretty good lunches for £5 a head now and it's decent food, although, the ambience isn't the same and the serving staff aren't as pleasant as The Windmill's, that said, with the baby we haven't been there for a year+ so it might have all changed so just ignore this post.

Give 'The Grove' in Chobham a try, been there twice and found it was good food & good service.
If your over Guildford way give the University of Surrey's new Varsity bar a visit at Manor Place.
Parking outside and great bar food in clean surroundings with a good selection of ales from the bar.

I had a meal at the Bee last year, and it was absolutely superb. Unfortunately, they don't have very good facilities for smokers, so I cannot go back until the weather warms up.The 3M does pretty good lunches for £5 a head now and it's decent food, although, the ambience isn't the same and the serving staff aren't as pleasant as The Windmill's, that said, with the baby we haven't been there for a year+ so it might have all changed so just ignore this post.
It's a pity about the Windmill. I was going to give it a try soon. Isn't it owned by the same people who own the Belvedere. Has the Belvedere suffered a similiar fate?

I keep meaning to try The Bee as I've heard good things about it but it's just a bit too close to home, we like to feel we've been out for a bit of a drive before a late lunch, so that throws the Half Moon out too as they have very rigid meal times and IMO are very expensive for what you get.
Recently we've been introduced to a really nice pub in Amersham and I love it. Friendly, helpful staff, good food, very varied menu (and I'm super fussy) and they have a new puppy.... it's soooooo cute, but I didn't let him sway my judgement

Have you eaten in the Cloched Hat? Well, the food that I had in the Bee was far superior. The Half Moon is just pub grub, and as you say, expensive for what you get. I have stopped going there, which is a bit of a pity because I used to like it.The Bee lacks the ambiance of an upmarket restaurant, but the food that I had there was truly superb.
I would however, sound a note of caution. When the PH'er who worked there left, he made a post about not getting paid his wages. That gave me the impression that they might be having financial difficulties. I don't know what this means about the quality of the food now, but I will go back. I don't think that the chef who prepared my meal would compromise him/herself.
If you live locally, then you should give it a punt. Of course, you could wait for a further report from me. Once the weather warms up I will return and I can report back.

It's flippin expensive, but worth every penny
But, I have to be honest, the 4 horseshoes pub next door is a real cracker for food. Or was about a year agon or so, when that young couple took it over. I've not heard anything bad about them since, so assume it's still excellent

And in reference to the Windmill - that's one of my 'locals'; and I've heard that complaint a few times now from the neighbours; so not a good rep locally. I've not eaten there since it was all done up; but was there when we had a mini-SAS meet there (that Nigel/Ben refers to I guess); and the food was not too hot then (as they've said). Which really backs up what my neighbours say.
Another one to consider might be the Sunningdale Lounge; which was the pub on the A30 in the centre of Sunningdale, which was previously called Chatts (or as the locals called it - Chavs). Have not heard anything bad about it at all.

I think that I tried it before and after the changeover. TBH, I am getting a bit old and I now worry more about quality rather than price. The last time that I was there I felt that they had moved the menu a bit downmarket. It was good value, but I am old and I am no longer principally after good value. I hope that I have made sense, but I have been out with AMOC tonight and I have also had a couple after I came home. Perhaps I should head off to the "Urdu thread".
