I would have thought that a Bank Holiday weekend is likely to be part of the issue. Most people go away or hide away and won't look at this sort of thing until the coming week or so. Even if they notice the ad themselves, they're just as likely to assume that you are away/busy.

Give it a few more days... smile

Have you put it up on the notice board at work, someone there might be looking for one? Have you put it as a 'classified' on fleabay or auction? Maybe try your local newsagents/post office/paper too.

Otherwise its a case of sitting and waiting for the phone to ring I'm afraid.

Ive had the puma up for 3 weeks and had only one passing interested person in it, Ive now listed on trader as need it gone now the new car is here. I'd imagine the bike is likely to shift but give it a week or two first before worrying as its a busy time of year for people.

i've had the Astra advertised for months, the only contacts are people that found the ad funny and wanted to tell me so...

Its odd, as i would've thought there would be a good market for bangers at the moment?

At the end of the day, whether it's a bike or a banjo, there will be lots of other people selling the same product. The trick is to make your advert stand out from the rest. Re-read your advert and put yourself in the shoes of a potential buyer. What differentiates your bike from all the rest that are being advertised? If the answer is nothing, therein lies your problem.
Good luck with the sell Dizz

Have you tried MCN? that along with biketrader would be the first port of call for most bikers I should imagine.

James I have just bought an SV650s as it happens. Quite similar to yours but a bit older (2003).

I had a couple of different bikes on my shortlist (Fazer, Hornet) but good examples of those, as in good price/good buy, frustratingly did not tend to hang about so only viewed one in the end. Whilst SVs' did seem to be more plentifull (in my price bracket at least). In the end I lined up three good SVs' to view on the same day. Bought the first one I saw of course!

Personally a well written ad goes a long way. If you'd like to post/send me a link to the ad I could cast my eye over it. I still have a feel for prices etc.

It might be worth having a word with Biketrader too. Heard a story via a mate who bought a bike off there 2 weeks ago that the seller had apparently been getting no interest (on a mint '04 CBR600RR). He raised this with Biketrader. Turned out a glitch on the system had been preventing any emails or phone calls getting through for a few days!

Definitely agree that a well written, informative ad means the phone is more likely to ring (especially if there's plenty of others similar out there).

Make sure you've got all the general questions covered including, mileage, last service (include costs and items done), what you're using it for. Decent photographs really help too. For a bike maybe look to show more detailed close ups, tyres etc as from a distance, one SV looks much like the next!

The one thing that I can't stand in an advert is over soppy "i've loved this car/bike" and "I really do want to keep it" etc etc. If you can steer clear of this stuff, tell people what they want to know, and also try to include a landline number then you'll get as much chance as any other ad.

If there's plenty of bikes out there then you may find the interest will be limited to more local people so I guess this may have an impact too.

Either way, good luck with the sale!

I don't. Yet wink Had a few 'issues'

Ad looks good to me. Tells me everything I would want to know. Looks like a solid bike. Price I agree is there or there abouts too. There are several bikes within 40 miles of me at that price point though.

It is tricky setting a price. Pretty sure I could have squeezed a few hundred pound more out of my old Clio. It sold within a week, actually going on Christmas Eve!

What are you getting next then? Or are you sticking to a work bike only? Been hoping to swap notes with you on SVs' at some point.

I put up My Alfa last Monday and it was gone on Sat to the first guy that saw it.

Ad looks good. Maybe some more pics with a hot girl draped over it?

I'm wondering if the Police reference is working against you? Ex-Police vehicles fetch much less than the market average when they go for sale and while I appreciate this was not owned by the Police, the ad suggests that.

Maybe just remove it from the title, 'low mileage' could be a better way to hook people into reading the ad

Was just thinking the same, the adverta seem to imply that the bike is/was used for Police service as opposed to privately owned? I'd remove the Police references altogether tbh and focus on how good the bike is...?

Cool. I'll drop you a line when I get a minute, probably once I start riding mine I expect.

I think the guys make a good point with regards the ex-police owned bit. I don't think it really adds anything to the advert.

Diz,

What sort of MPG do you get, ideally in a commuting style not a balls out style?

If I had the time for the licence I would be very tempted..

Time = no £ or No time = ££?
