Tell me I'm wrong, should I not look at either S4 Bi Turbo's, S8's, E55 AMG's, or 750's...

The disco is great but feels odd not having a choice of car to take! Would like a cruiser again for the trips to the coast and seeing people at home.

Not too fussed with MPG, but gadgets and toys are a must. Love Blues 750 and really tempted. Also like this S8, but I hear they can be elec nightmares? Same goes for E55's I think.

Grunt would be good, but even our work Focus tdci seems quick after the Discovery!

Slightly O/T Alex but I want to swaps notes with about the Merc you used to have at some point. Could be in the market for a big cruiser at the end of the summer wink I'll watch this thread with interest.

Would be good to catch up anyway. You seem to have been a bit scarce of late!

E55 - one word, rust....
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MERC...

I know it's more than the £4k, but these are good
http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/MERC...

...and looking round, I'd say that the Blues motor is probably a good choice as most of the rest appear a bit dog eared at that budget....?

For that sort of money i'd be trying to find a C43 AMG - just like the E55 it uses a twin-spark 3-valve per cylinder V8 which is bulletproof.

There are two things to look out for (C43 or E55). The first is rust. The second is the gearbox; Merc reckon it's a sealed-for-life unit but they then tend to fail not long after 100k miles have been reached (typically). If you change the gearbox oil every 50k miles (not an expensive job!) they tend to last forever...

Really liking the S8 the more I read into them. Had the merc and loved the W124 but the newer shapes leave me a little cold, and not rare enough.

This S8 looks tidy and if the history is good, with all the belts changed etc. 2002 Final edition model, all the toys, fairly quick. Terrible mpg granted, but I have always love Ronin biggrin

Great list they have there! I reckon the XJR, C43, S8 or 540i (manual) would fit the bill nicely.

I had one of these as a company car in 1999 - quiet, quick and reliable motorway cruiser with loads of toys!
