Advanced Warning - Road Closures Woking 24th June

All,

If anyone of you are planning to travel to or through Woking on thursday the 24th June.. Take note as many of the roads in the town centre will be closed for the Woking Cycle Tour.

As there isn't enough problems with road works, pot holes etc etc
I hope the cost of the diversion signage and traffic management is not comming out of council tax payers or SCC money

This was a nightmare last year. All the roads feeding from Ottershaw, Horsell etc into the main road running by Peacocks and Holiday Inn were blocked.

If anyone needs to go from 6 cross roads across Woking towards Guildford then they are better off heading via Knaphill, to St Johns.

I know it was a nightmare last year.. I usually park in the Peacocks for work..

dont tell em to go via knaphill.. I dont want to roads busy around me..... Go via oldwoking instead!!

I left my car in the office car park and walked home last year. This year our boss has given us permission to work from home. What was annoying last year was the lack of consultation/planning, none of the businesses were given any warning and there was little if any advertising - the first we knew of the road closures was when the traffic started backing up outside the office.

Edit: stevieb, you must have a similar journey in to work as me as I'm in Knaphill too (St.Johns end) whereabouts are you ?

Ooh thanks for the reminder, I better leave early and go through Maybury then. I see they've neglected that route in the diversions planned, in favour of going via West Byfleet.

6 cross roads to Maybury via Lion Retail part will be choked. Better bet from M25 might be to cut through via rubbish dump at McLaren and go via Old Woking way.

I'm in Horsell, it'll be alright in the morning, and I'll just come back home early whatever way seems ok.

I'm happy for it to go through Woking. In my mind it's a good use my council tax.
Far better than to waste it propping up the council workers pensions

Given the cost and chaos last year the council has not learned its lesson abot planning...

All for the Tour to come to woking, but just needs some planning so that it does not cause so many problems..

WE have a team in the event so will be watching in the afternoon!

I'm in Woking too. The signs say the roads shut at 10:00 - what time did it start getting claggy last year?

I think an early dash for the M25 may be in order.

Yet Again.. Surrey CC and Woking Council scored an own goal again this morning with inadequate notification of closures..

Woking council said that all closures will start at 10am.. But come road closures were in by 9am causing more chaos for people travelling to work again..

I know a local firm of solicitors are talking of taken the council to court for unlawful obstruction of the highway, as SCC & WC published the Traffic Regulation Orders. If they published them why cant they adhere to what they said they would do???

I was hoping to sneak through at about 9:15 and only once I had reached the stretch for closure was I informed that it was already closed, anyway I left early and am back home now. Good luck to everyone this evening. :P

Roads will be back to normal around 1am!!!

Last year roads were bad until well past rush hour.
