We were discussing this after stopping just down the road from the Ace

We reckon it was just the gas build up from the tyres getting ignited from whatever either on the road / tyres / engine that was hot enough. Made me jump though, car was fine except a bit of a tyre smell!

Amusingly this video was e-mailed round Volvo customer service dept just a few days afterwards. Someone there said "Look at this, he'll be onto warranty next for brake components "

When I recounted the story I'd seen on Pistonheads to my wife, who worked at Volvo head office in Marlow, she said "Ah ha, so that was who we were laughing at over lunch today".

The old girls still going strong,not been overtaken yet on this trip,not found any unrestricted autobahns yet,they all seem to be 130,that is MPH I hope!,currenty in Speyer beside the Rhine.Saw a cracking speed boat flying down the river last night,could have been a double of mine with straight through exhausts,then saw a mint 67 Charger on drive back to hotel I like this place.
