That makes no sense whatsoever! I pay £750 on mine with 1 years NCB and a claim on it and I'm 23. Give your ins company a call and ask them to explain?

I got £350 for a Brabus Smart ForTwo, and £150 for a Caterham 7 (1600 Ford engine), which seems ludicrously low !

Also , it costs vary depending on what job you do !!!, and goes UP if you're unemployed !!

Things have obviously changed for you then James! http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...wink

Anyway, I think alot of insurers (certainly Flux) have changed their criteria recently as I had an insurance quotation in June that then doubled in a week and then I apparently became uninsurable from the first week of July?? I searched the PH forums and found a company that would insure the car under a classic policy for the same money has I had originally been quoted with Adrian Flux.

I've got all of this to look forward to again in October.

James, are you declaring the fact that you fold the rear seats down? hehe

I've got all the cars (five off) with Admiral on their multi car policy which is really paying off at the moment. Always much cheaper than anything the meerkats or their ilk can offer.

Only downfall I can see is that there'll be one mahoosive invoice to pay when it comes up for renewal.

Insurance has had some huge jumps of premiums in the last 9 months or so, and loads of good policies now don't seem to exist..

Bike insurance nearly doubled this year.

Change - 1 year more ncb.

Not good.
Still only £230ish though

It's ALL because I crashed my car bowtie

However I was thinking about this, and I've still given insurance companies more than they've given me since I started driving, which was nice. Best write off a much more expensive car next time! hehe

Good luck, I'm hoping my insurance will drop a bit next year if I can avoid writing off the M3 too as that was pretty silly this time around!

I'm quite pleased as i've gone up an insurance group 14 to 15 gained a yrs NCB 3 to 4 and its gone down from £700 to £630. But I blame the snow and recession for people crashing more meaning we all have to pay for the amount they pay out.

I absolutely hate insurance. My first car, N reg 1.3 Fiesta, 3PFT £1900. Bought a 58 plate 1.4 Corsa halfway through the years insurance and had to pay an additional £900 to get fully comp and change car. Week after getting the car someone swings out on icey road and due to road position (me waiting to come on to a roundabout..) insurance company pays out claiming it's my fault without examining the damage on either car, so theres goes an additional £400 excess on top of the years £2800 already payed.

Next year Fully comp £2600, someone throws a branch off a footbridge so I payed the £600 to repair it myself so I kept my NCD, then this year my insurance was only £800, which I was very pleased about, only to have some drunk guy run out in front of me (I had many witnesses backing me up) but because peds don't have insurance I'm £600 in excess and a year and halfs NCD down the drain.
All of this on minimum wage, makes me even more irrate when you see people on TV driving without insurance. rolleyes

Diz, The Mondeo we got recently (2002 petrol estate) was more expensive than the Monaro, Merc E240, and Disco even though we had 3 years with Privilege and a good no claims. That was the end of Priviledge insuring any of our cars ever again...

Swift Cover ended up by far the cheapest for it at £450. I can't work out why a Mondeo is an expensive car to insure, given parts and cars are so cheap.

A certain insurance company that you don't have to be posh to use wanted to pretty much double my insurance quote. Nice reward for six years of loyalty, that.

Looking at the comparison sites most seem more expensive across the board. Luckily a different company, named after something the local church likes to ring on a Sunday, managed to not only still offer the kind of quotes I was getting last year, but bring my insurance down from £530-odd to £440.

Something else to mention, seeing people being surprised for the quotes on ordinary cars. I had a go a month or so ago at running some sums on downsizing the main car and joining something like the Classic Car Club.

There's hardly any worthwhile difference in insurance premium between my S60 (200bhp, expensive parts, lots of airbags and safety bits to replace in the event of a crash) and a bog-standard 1.6 Focus with less than half the power.

The only thing I can think of is people in everyday, small-engined cars are now so bad at paying attention to something they've no interest in (i.e., driving) that they cost insurance companies about the same in accident payouts over the year as the more traditionally risk-taking "enthusiast" in a faster or larger car having fewer but larger and more expensive crashes.

As a related side note, back in the days before the Max Power brigade got their stamp firmly on that scene, it wasn't unheard of for someone to modify a car and, with the right insurer and the right combination of modifications, find the cost of their policy had gone down; presumably the actuarial data was showing that people who put time and effort into their car were more likely to take care of it on the roads.

I'm paying £1083 fully comp for a Group5 hatchback at 19, had a full license for almost 2yrs now but no NCB. I've a friend who, at 18, has been driving a year less than I, has one fault claim (bashed a bank, needed a new bumper/radiator/ac compressor) and is paying £1400 on a 54-plate Mazda 3 1.4. 3rd party... Seems frankly ridiculous if you're getting quotes for £1200!

ETA: I'm with Elephant, not sure about him...

Insurance is a complete mystery these days...

I've got the RS6 with Swiftcover - including modifications it comes in at £670 a year fully comp, protected NCD and business use... no-one else even got close to that, although Lloyds Platinum scheme were nearest at about £800.

However the GTR is with Elephant for just over £900 a year fully comp with business use and track-day cover (extended excess). Swiftcover wouldn't even quote, even though they will happily insure a modified RS6 with similar power!

Admiral was 'laugh out loud' expensive wanting over £3k for the pair incl the 'multi-car' discount...

Adrian Flux (PH Performance Car discount specialists...rolleyes) were ludicrously expensive and the guy on the phone told me 'diplomatically' that I was lying if I was getting the GTR insured for £900.

Yeah I wasn't too happy with Flux the last time I spoke to them on the phone. As I briefly explained above, their criteria changed and I became uninsurable the day I decided to take them up on their quote. Matt from the Yellow Department couldn't have been more rude when he broke the news to me on the phone and when I asked why they couldn't offer me a quote he just didn't seem to care and offered no explaination whatsoever.

Needless to say I won't be renewing the insurance for the S2 with them. smile
