what to look for in a PMR radio??

well as the title says really, i am in the market for some pmr radios for hooning and just wondering what to look for, spec, types, any reccommendations at all??? as i have never owned any of these i am a complete novice when it comes to these things so any help appreciated

Go to maplin and buy the MT800 ones, I've bought two sets of these however somehow only have one radio and one charger left.

So maybe write your name on them too!

Can recommend the MT600, MT800, and MT975.

Having extensively tested them i can safely say that there is little difference between the 6 and 8 on range and sound quality, both are MUCH better than almost all the other PMR stuff out there.
The MT975 does give you significantly better range though (for not much additional cost).

For work we have now abandoned PMR in favour of licensed radios, but these require an OFCOM certificate and cost a great deal more per unit.

Another vote for the cobra's. When the current one's are lost or broken, I'll be shelling out the extra £15 or so for the 975

+1 for the cobra mt800

I've not tried the others listed, but very happy with the one I use

edit..mine is the 800 not the 600

We've got some non cobra ones which we used last year, they're not great over long distances (as with all PMR's) but you're welcome to try a couple out if you want.

If you like them you can have a bunch of them cheap, if not then the cobra 975's win my vote.
