Airfields Etc to get used to a cars limits?

Anyone know anywhere good where i can get onto a quiet airfield/large expanse of land to play without the concerns of curbs? dont mind paying but i imagine most track days wont be happy with me probably spinning a few times!

All the buildings are army now, but I THINK the actual airfield is common land. Depending who is on gate duty you can drive straight on to the runway and blat around. Worse case they dispatch a landrover to tell you to go away.

Found some information..

Ockham Common, to the north east of the village, is the site of the disused Wisley Airfield[4][5], which has a paved 2-km (1.25 miles) runway (RWY 10/28). As late as 1972, this airfield was in service as a satellite fit-out and flight test centre for Vickers and latterly the British Aircraft Corporation, linked to their main factory and airfield at nearby Brooklands[6], Weybridge, capable of taking aircraft as large as the VC10.

Although the airfield is disused, the aviation connection remains, being the location of OCK [7], a VOR navigational beacon which anchors the South West (SW) Arrival Stack for London Heathrow Airport (ICAO: EGLL / IATA: LHR), which along with Biggin Hill, Kent (BIG - SE Arrivals), Bovingdon, Hertfordshire (BNN - NW Arrivals) and Lambourne, Essex (LAM - NE Arrivals) are London's main holds.

My dad used to work for British aerospace and used to fly from wisley often. I remember as a kid a campaign in the local village to close the airfield down as the flightpath was over said village.

You cannot drive onto it as the gates at elm corner have concrete in front of them. Also the runway itself does have barriers across it at certain points, I think if you zoom in on google you can see the shadows of the barriers. You can walk onto the airfield there are several footpaths across it. The apron and taxiways are all still there, and an often we get complaints from local residents about motorbikes using it.

Was just about to say, took a drive up there on the way home.. You can go the way the directions tell you to, right at the Black Swan pub, but there was a Mundano parked in the entrance way and he was in a hi-viz so I assume security or something. Didn't go down the Elm Corner bit as I didn't know you could get to it from there.

went there a bit as a teenager in the 90's - was full of old fridges, rubbish and over grown then, so hate to think what it'd be like now!

The opposition to opening that up would be huge! There's a farm house in view of the runway if I remember correctly, fairly big site as well.

I believe they have had 'Fighting torque' style events there in the recent past but cant remember what it was called. Theres a bus rally on there every year but I believe thats it. The locals won't allow the noise! Such a waste!

Ended up on the runway there biking from Woodham a few years ago. The armco breaks the runway as you can see and the tarmac is much worse than it would appear.

Many moons ago, we were sideways with copious rubber smoke...

Then a lassie appeared, coming the other way, with dad teaching her to drive.

The look on their faces was priceless, but it's worth bearing in mind if you use an airfield.

was involved in a hoon that started at Ockham, the amount of men who has lost their dogs by 06:00 in the morning was startling.
