Winter tyre help

Afternoon guys
I have just had a whole pile of extra trips sprung on me for the beginning of January. So the question i need to ask is who knows any good tyre place that wont laugh at me on the phone when I ask for lead times on a set of 4 205/17/50s
Yes I am fully aware that correct answer to this question is that i should have ordered them about 2 months ago.
A beery reward will be provided for anyone who provides a good lead

I have a line on a bmw dealership with their winter wheel pack for almost normal money that I think will be the end result of this hunt. I feel like/am a right t
t not buying winters anyway before.I would also like to add that rather than this being the normal "what winter tyres should I get" crap its more of a "where can i get some if at all"

Your problem of short supply is because winter tyres are all made in the summer and delivered to the wholesalers in the autumn and supplies are running down come December and that is why the price has gone up.
Because of the bad winter last year they have sold 10x the amount this year that they sold last year and now they are running out.
They will have switched to summer production by now so you will find it difficult to find any winter tyres and almost impossible to find a selection to choose from.

mytyres.co.uk did mine really quickly, but that was over a month ago. However they do have a massive range on their site, so you may find SOMETHING in stock - might be worth ringing them perhaps? edit: Nope, out of stock too

Edit2: Doniger, I owe you a pint. It looks like they have stock of their steel wheel and tyre packs, This looks like a good plan B to the bmw winter wheels pack.

I heard that Insurance companies weren't honouring claims if any car involved in RTA had snow or winter tyres!
I heard that this was overruled though as is it sensible to use these tyres during the colder seasons, as most normal tyres are only rated to temperatures down to 6 deg C only!!!

Hi do you really need "winter" tyres.
I have Uniroyal rainsports on my Bora and it has never got stuck, even when I parked in deep snow, on the ice they have been really good too.
I have droped the pressures on the front down, but I am very impressed, I hvae driven on full snow tryes and full winters, and these are as close as I have driven, the main difference to winter/snow tyres is the micro treands that help in Pack ice, but its not a major issue.

The benefit is that when the normal weather returns they are still useable.

Not entirely, But compared to the re050A RFTs that are currently on my 120d the winters are incredible, I no longer have traction issues on snow I have Uniroyal rainsports on my Bora and it has never got stuck, even when I parked in deep snow, on the ice they have been really good too.

they have been bloody useful over the last few days in allowing me to shuttle the grandparents around as their road sees next to no car traffic and has still not melted.
