Driving in the South West Next Week, Do I need Snowsocks?

I've got to get to north Devon next week with the misses in the MX5 (on some nice new Conti SC3s! (utter **** in this weather!)), I've found some snow socks but I'll need to order tonight to have any hope of getting them in time, whaddya reckon? get them just incase?

Im off to boscastle and north Cornwall Xmas eve. Currently trying to decide the same, scooby on ste conti sc3 or landy with max speed of 60 and terrible mpg...

Just had a quick chat with the misses mum and they got there fine on sat in the ahem prius and havent had any snow yet. just one of those sods law moments! and £55 on something that may not turn up in time could be annoying.

Keep your eyes peeled on this thread, lots of people updating as conditions change.

Gloucester currently f*cked, M5 south of Bristol gets progressively worse, Weston downwards is not good.
A303 not good, M4 is fine until at least the M5 junction.
More snow coming down tonight too.

My snow socks are superb, but can't have them on now, as most of the roads are clear of snow (wish I could just put them on to get out of my road and then take them off)

I've just bought a set - hopefully they'll turn up soon.

Intrigued by your comment about wishing you could use them to get out and then take them off - That's exactly what I was hoping to use them for as it's only the last 100 metres of steep lane that I'm struggling with. Are they not easy to put on and take off?

wimped out and bought some socks in the end as ill need to use them to get out of the street at least i imagine!

My ex is bringing my daughter up from North Devon Monday - as at yesterday a lot of snow but the roads are driveable with care. The A361 was shut last Friday (link road from J27 M5 and the way they have to come) but will know for definite next week how good/bad it is.

Yep got (well ordered) them from roof box

Website said they had my size but they emailed me this morning to say they'd sold out but wanted to know my tyre sze. Once given they said the order was being processed today. 'Though it's by courier I'm still sceptical that I'll see them pre Chrimbo.

I suppose you could do it, just make sure the gloves are on as you'll get covered in crap. Took me 10 minutes to get them on for the first time and 30 seconds to take off, just find somewhere safe to stop and do it

Your diesel landy has worse MPG than the scooby???

Id still take the landy as at least you know you can go pretty much anywhere in it!! low box is a god send!!

Socks arrived today and have been put in boot! took car out earlier and only a few purposeful fun moments on the snow.

Yep worse mpg on the MT tyres, only get 350 miles to 90 ltrs and 270 miles to 60 in scooby!

Std wheels are going on the landy tomorrow and I think that is the best option. I can push the scooby along on the ice at work like a giant curling puck!

Damn suddenly 600 miles on 80 litres doesnt seem so bad in my van!!!
