Had a problem with the Chim "running rough", and had to be low loaded to Raciung Green. After a lot of diagnostics, they established that the AFM had blown, probably sent an electrical spike and blew the ECU and a relay. The "negotiated" bill come to £940 (had a couple of other bits seen to whilst it was there, and thats another story).

A few weeks later, i remembered i had spent £120 on an AA insurance thingummyjig for parts which "break" on any of my cars, so sent the invoice and a nice letter to the AA Man. They told me that a condition of this insurance is that they have the right to inspect the car before any work is carried out, but they will "look into it". Hmm, an insurance company looking for a wriggle out? That, i thought, would be the end of that.

nono Just had a call from them, a cheque for £475 (max claim less £25 excess) is on its way to me.

Not a moment too soon either. It now means that the children may have a modest chicken for christmas lunch, and a nicely wrapped cardboard box to play with.

Waitrose here i come! biggrin

Hi Blues,

I've got the same policy and made two claims with them (clutch and steering rack), you just need to remember to call them out first. I can't fault their service and getting £475 off the bill is nice.

That is a result Dave. I have breakdown repair cover on my Elise. Already paid for itself when a new alternator was required. Very handy policy to have!

Does surprise me a little that they cover such niche British sportscars at all. Say no more about that though!

Make sure you call the AA out and all is good. Car running rough and garage think they know but need to pull it apart first?

Drive off to local shops, call AA, drink coffee while you wait for them to arrive, scratch chin and suck teeth and low load you back to the original garage.

job's jobbed....
