Car advice tough choice

Unfortunately not my choice. But was talking to a mate at work, he is looking for a new car of no more than 45k
He was looking to buy a SLK55 AMG, but he asked what I would buy if I had the cash. The cars on my wish list at the moment are a DB9 and a Nissan GTR. Always like the Aston but also have that itch for pure japanese engineering and speed.
After a long chat he is very keen on the GTR, but also has that niggle in the back of his head what about the Aston. He has already binned the idea of the SLK and is booked in for a test drive in the GTR on Thursday. He is coming from a 2005 M3. The car he has had for the last 5 years, and will plan go keep tis one for the next 5.
The car will be a weekend car with maybe 1 or 2 trips to the office during the week.
If you had the choice what would you go for out of the GTR or DB9 if not either then what would your suggestion be....

2 different types of GTR beast, especially when damp 
I've watched an Ultima on the track and it appears to understeer far more than what the Nissan would with all it's clever electronics.
£35K or more if you converted a later one for the ultimate machine:

What's his running budget per annum and expected mileage? Is he 'enthusiatic' behind the wheel, or a 'cruiser'? I'm struggling with someone comparing a choice between an Aston and a GTR as they are very very very different cars to own and drive...He is more of a cruiser rather that a point to point driver. I only mentioned the cars to him in the pub rather than a Merc AMG SLK thing. He has latched onto the idea of the GTR after me passing him a few copies of EVO and a few links to Auto Journals.
His budget for his toy is £9000 per year to include Servicing/Repairs/Petrol/Insurance Etc. This will need to cover 4000-5000 miles per year.
He is coming from a M3 so he is aware of some of the bigger repair/service bills, hence his 9k budget, but that may not be enough for some of the more exotic GT Cars around
I want to give him a few other options before he sinks his cash in a AMG SLK55. There are a host of other options that can be considered for the money.

Easily run a GTR for that budget and mileage (depending on insurance).Fuel (5k miles, 18mpg, £1.4 per litre) = £1,800'ish
Insurance = £1,500'ish (I pay approx £900 fc with business 1...)
Servicing (service every 6 months or 6k miles) = £1,200'ish total per annum
Depending on his driving enthusiasm levels and/or track days consumables soon mount up...
Brake pads & discs all round = £3,000'ish
Tyres (new set every 6k-8k miles) = £1,600'ish
Diff oil change (post track or over-heat) = £300'ish
