I saw a fully marked up Jag XF in Farnham a couple of weeks ago. I have no sympathy when they moan about budget cuts!

I'm pretty sure I saw a Sliver S3 (well it was bloody flying so either an S3 or 3.2 or something, certainly had the S3 wheels) in Hayes with blues and two's screaming

Diz would it be an S3 ?

Wether they pay full price or nothing at all doesn't change the perceived image the general public have of the police. The press prints that constabularies are warning about the effects of budget cuts on policing but then drive round in flash cars? What are people going to think?
Please don't take it the wrong way, I have a lot of respect for the police but unfortunately sometimes they don't do them selves any favors, but that is not the fault of the guys on the streets its the top paper pushers.

Point taken smile

I can't argue with that at all thumbup

But as you say, it's not the feet on the street who make decisions; they are just the front line for the 'top paper pushers'

Unfortunately.

Once got a ride in a an R36 Passat with the lights on. All the toys, full leather etc. Was quick too, especially on the wrong side of the road.

The cops need fast, reliable cars but I fail to see why the need leather, leccy seats and flash steroes...

Who said that they pay for that level of spec, or ordered it?

Simple answer is, we don't but its the spec the cars come in and we have no say on It.

As for the Jag, would you prefer we pay an extra 5k for one of the other alternatives, just because it might look bad, despite the car is cheaper?

Its because of the image that we aren't getting another Jag, we're being forced to buy the more expensive BMW 5 series, which is also not as good for the role its used in (we don't get a huge list of cars to choose from)

As for the Passatt, VW have offered us some more at 15k each, as I understand they're struggling to sell them , but the offer has been turned down

RE the above, fair enough. But you can see how folk could get a bee in their bonnet without perhaps knowing all the facts.

Which is why I'm always saying to the bosses that we should make it public knowledge how much the cars cost, but they aren't interested

Seriously - the Police aren't buying the (British built) cars they want because they're worried about the image? So they're paying £5K more for BMWs?

Although I have heard the XFs have had a lot of in-service reliability issues - perhaps that's the reason?

I'm surprised they're that expensive - one Police force was forced by an FOI request to release the price paid for its Chief and Deputy Chief Con RangeRovers and it was about half list price.

I was passed by a Insignia Estate last week, is it a VXR version (was in Reading).

Anyway, got me thinking. What must the annual fuel bill be for a Police Force like the TVP? Do they get discounts?

probably (so far) has been one of the most reliable cars we've had!

Lots of things are pushed upon us when it doesn't make sense, just from one of the replies to the thread about how bad it looks having the XFS shows what the public think, it's a shame really.

I know there has been one or two R36 Passats around, but are you sure they/it weren't on test for a while? I'm sure a few of the resident lads in the job could fill us in with this as i'm out the loop at this moment in time.

I'll take one at £15k, but I will want the flashy lights and the Starsky and Hutch style light for the roof
