Any Sky TV Installers Loitering?
Discussion
Basically, I'm after a 'non-standard' install .....
1: I think I need a bigger dish (plus a solid, not mesh one)
2: Install it on the flat roof, on the 3rd floor of Chez Kinky
I'm 99.99% sure that I will have clear line of sight issues if the dish is located in a 'normal' position.
So basically, it's a case of having someone come round and checking that "yup, we can do that, and it will work perfectly" before I commit to Sky.

Phone sky and they have a specialist team who can advise on no standard installs.
Also they will charge you if it needs to be installed any higher than the 1st Floor, also if its a flat they may not even install it as they will say its your land lords job to install a communual dish for all flats

Cheers Stevie - I did not realise that Sky had a specialist team. I'll give them a call.
I can confirm that the property is all mine (3-story town house) ... it's just these pesky trees.
I did do a quick Google and these guys came up a few times ..... http://1install.co.uk

Opps didnt read it properly i thought you said install it on the roof of your Flat instead of the flat roof. I can confirm that the property is all mine (3-story town house) ... it's just these pesky trees.

Anything above 5m Sky sharge a fee to install and you get a different team out. I only know this as we have just had sky install a dish on top of a 16 storey tower block.

The guy from sky was not keen at work this height. He was used to the installing Dishes on the side of chimneys and not over 70m above ground.
We had the Sky dish installed by them and they were fine about putting it on the second floor of our place a bit further down the A30, didn't charge and had a huge ladder, it was a fairly tricky installation but they managed to get the dish pointing in the right direction. The broadband happens to be excellent if you're going for that, fluke of the exchange location and fibre infrastructure more than anything though.

Being honest the best guys re the ones that go around in the sky branded vans. If it's any of the others steer clear. It's also best to book an install outside a promotion date, as when they have the promos on they contact it out to jo bloggs for £50 per install and they do as many as they can in a day.

You need to get a sky guy to install it not one of the contractors.
We had a "Sky" engineer out to our house, he refused to install it as he said I needed a specialist heights team, which involved 3 guys and he couldn't do it on his own. He wouldn't re-schedule and I had to phone sky.I rang and complained and they sent out another engineer, I asked him about it being a specialist heights job and he laughed. I only live in a bog standard 2 story house and the dish is mounted by my bedroom window......
I guess the 1st guy was just lazy.
The 2nd one threw the cable over the roof as he wasn't allowed to drill through into the loft. The phone cable was run around the wall and up and over the doors (it now doesn't work) and he made a mess of the hole he drilled into the living room.
We had a sky guy do ours, I pointed out that I didn't want the cables over the roof like next door ( it was on a new estae and we were the second to get sky - the neighbours being the first). He said that he wouldn't be covered but I asked him to do it anyway (that's what house insurance is for?). It was fine and he did a really good job.
After that no one else on the estate had the cables over the roof!!!
Even when we got sky + they put the extra cables through the roof!!!!
