Why don't they tell the truth?

I'm looking for a decent Corsa for my duaghter, and have been out to see two today. what a complete waste of time!!

1st = "dealer". He gave us an address in a business park. Turns out to be the carpark in the business park. He is selling cars from a fking carpark. He doesn't seem to have an office/unit there! "A couple of slight scratches that i will deal with, other than that the car is perfect" is what he tells me over the phone. "Full dealer service history" = nothing for the first three years of the car's life, then a seemingly genuine service book stamp, then three very dodgy looking rubber stamps from a "mobile auto" business which were all signed with the same pen, by the same person - across over three years! Yeah, right.

2nd = private sale. Top dollar price on the 'trader (and here), but one careful lady owner absolutely mint! - about as mint as my Arse! All four alloys were battered to buggary. Scratches on the bodywork, strange stains on the paintwork, and a very grubby interior. "that's make-up mate, that is. It's called foundation. You know what women are like". FFS I did make what i considered a reasonable offer to take everything into account, as well as it being overdue a service. They have only just advertised it, so want to see what happens

Needless to say, i thanked them both graciously for their time, and am now home fuming. Time for a me thinks.

So, if you know anyone who has a very tidy post 2004 Corsa for sale with low mileage (sub 55k), preferably 3 door and in a dark colour, please let me know... unless i am contravening another PH rule, in which case avoid me like the plague.

My friend has a 1.2 2007 corsa with under 30k, but I'm not sure when he's selling it but I will keep you posted.

My mate has a black 1.4 Corsa for sale. One owner from new. Full Vauxhall service history. About 7yrs old I think. 50k on the clock.




Girlfriend borrowed it last weekend, it overheated and the heads warped. Think the water pump st itself - all coolant vanished. Supplying dealer who did all the servicing want 2.5k for a new engine!

good option, Corsa's are a typical first cars so get treated like a first car therefore a minter/un-modified example will be hard to come buy. That said though there must be a few good'uns about....surely.

Yaris - good strong engine and likely to have had a "older" owner so typically not ragged.

Thanks for your input all. She has set her heart on a Corsa, and i can do little to persuade her otherwise. Reliability hasn't occured to her - that's a job for Dad's bank I know it is just a matter of plugging away until the right car comes on the market, but its a pain. I have sold a couple of cars privately, and go the extra mile to make sure that the description fits the car, as well as presenting the car in the best possible condition. I just wish others did the same and then we wouldn't waste each other's time. Any road up, my motivation is high. Until i get this one sorted, i can't go shopping for myself

Second one is a possibility, and apparently a Fiesta is a however boredom, lack of time, and a desire to start shopping for MY next car has increased my budget, and am off to look at this one:
