I know, I heard on grapevine (and may be bs) but they were going to have a "consultation" but instead just put up some laminanted signs on noticeboards. I also heard they had already bought the p&d machines.
Thames Ditton where I live, there is already a massive shortage of parking,for example if you need to leave car on the street and go out for the day there are minimal places to do this, Taking out (in our case) 8 spaces+ would have a huge effect.
Coupled to which,the small businesses (as rightly said above) will suffer further in what is already a difficult climate. If people dont bother visiting the village because of parking, they will just go to kingston/esher/surbiton and incorporare into their weekly shop anyhow.
Also aesthetically would kill the feel of the place.
I'm sure the same circumstances prevail in all your towns and villages.

I am going to go against the grain here.. I think they should put Pay and Display in the car parks but not on street.
I am fed up with the local business developing there own carparks into larger business units forcing the employees to park in the shopping car parks. This then prevents the people who want to use the village centre from parking so they just go somewhere else. Specific example Local Secure Hospital developed there 50 space car park into another secure wing. Thus displacing the workers into the local village car park, preventing others from using the shops in the village centre.
Also i am fed up with the mum in the 4x4 driving there kids to school and parking up in the car park and walking the last 2 minutes to school. even though they only live 7 minutes form the school on foot.
Where is the petition in support.

Stevieb, I'm finding it hard to understand your proposal in relation to your concern. They seem unlinked. Perhaps planning consultations need to be considered more carefully and planners ought to question what the effect would be if a car park becomes an office.

Yep. It personally doesn't affect me as I don't mind walking to the shops but it will affect many hundreds of businesses which employ thousands of people; passing trade will drop or people will start parking in residential areas which leads to other problems in terms of increased traffic. I cant speak for other areas but in thames ditton there is a large p&d car park. It used to have a reasonable daily charge, surrey cc more than doubled this, the carpark went overnight from being almost full on a daily basis to empty bar 1 or 2 cars all of the time.
it now makes far less money than it used to. Cynics claim this is a long term strategy to say the car park isnt used and therefore sell the land for development.
All the local businesspeople that used to park there now park on the streets leading to even less space.

I particularly like the quote "It will also allow us to manage our on street parking operation more efficiently and more economically, which may lead to additional money being available for improving Surrey’s roads." These kinds of schemes don't tend to create much profit due to the costs of running them! Sounds to me like they know that a lot of people are going to be opposed to this...

In the last four days some 7,000 signatures have been added, so with five days to go the pace needs to be stepped up a bit if we are not to fall an agonising 1,250 signatures short.
Please do what you can to ensure that people who want to object to the pay and display across Surrey are aware of the online petition and make the effort to add their signature. Thanks."

got done for no ticket in Asda's in Farnborough a couple of years ago...
They changed the parking policy and put an a4 sized sign up on the way into the car park... which no one saw.... then had half a dozen parking wardens strolling around handing out tickets like confetti @ 10pm as parking was now chargeable 24 hours.. robbing tossers!

Have sent it to someone in a neighbouring local authority who will hopefully spread the word; said LA will have inhabitants that will be affected. Actually, does anyone have any friends who work for SCC? Surely they would also be affected and have a view.
