Vauxhall Corsa - Won't Start?????

Hi, I wonder if anybody may have come across this problem, a friend has a Corsa that won't start, if you turn the ignition on you only get the Engine Management light come on, the car turns over but won't start. It appears to be more of an electrical fault as we don't even get the mileage show up as per usual. I have no idea on where to start looking.

sounds like the ignition coil, check and see if you are getting a spark at the plug end of the ht lead if not then i would say ignition coil.

Certainly sounds electrical but depending on the age of it, it might be more complicated than the coil/leads as you should be getting the battery and oil light also come on when the ignition is switched on.

Ended up calling The AA, man turns up, thumps the top of the dash, it lights up like a Christmas tree, car starts. Job done. His comment was that it is quite common in these cars?????????
