Hello all

Recently i backed into someones car at no less than 5mph and unfortunatly put a slight dent into the other blokes quarter panel and he wanted to go through insurance (left details on screen)He's now had his repaired and he reckons it has cost £2350.Is this reasonable ?

That sounds ridiculous! Has he got an invoice? My neighbour had a dent taken out and rear quarter resprayed on his BMW 330 after someone hit it and drove off for £350.
Plus if he's gone ahead and got it done outside of the insurance he can't just demand you pay it!

You tried to be reasonable,but it looks to me that he is being unreasonable and trying it on.You can get a respray for that price!! Have you any photo`s of the damage? did you get an estimate to repair the damage? did the two of you come to an agreement before work was started? if the answer is no,tell him to get lost.The damage has been repaired so the "evidence" is not there any more and there is nothing he can do about it.

He thinks he's found a mug and is trying his luck....a dented 1/4 wouldn't need any parts. Paint and labour, as said above i would expect circa £350-£500 depending on the paint.

thats exactly what i thought its just a bog standard 56 plate focus.luckily i managed to get pictures of the damage and told him if he got a quote il pay but after making many attempts at trying to get him to forward one to me his answer was insurance dealt with it so its finished but i heard the figure of £2350 plus 10 days car hire.My insurance company have said they admitted liabilty but have not recieved any quotes from his company.

Even including 10 days car hire, that still only adds on a few hundred quid. And why 10 days...sounds like your insurance is being had.

£2300 was quoted by vauxhall main stealer to remove this slight scuff and dent in my van quarter panel! So can easily believe that sort of figure, rear quarters can be a pain, they will quote for removal of interior, seats etc and then get a dent man to pop it out!!
