Where to find detailed model info/buying advice

Currently looking for something small RWD and quick (currently run 205GTis) but more practical than a Lotus 7 clone, e.g. capable of getting two people to the ring with space for essential luggage (e.g. couple of soft bags). Also would rather not spend > ~£6k on a toy that may not get used that much.
I've noticed a few G27s around for very reasonable amonts of money but know absolutely nothing about them. They look like they haev a small boot and I saw mention of a hardtop in one ad but can't see anything else where. How many were made? What is availability of parts like? I'm more than capable of wielding a spanner but without knowing what parts are required I can see maintanance being "interesting" (not owned a kit to date).
Would prefer a hardtop for the car cause then I will drive it more, maybe even use it on a daily commute? Seen 40mpg mentioned so using for the commute seems plausable.

Hi Rob, think there is a G27 in the classifieds at the minute ?? Many different engine options available, earlier cars with pinto engines, later ones with zetec/vauxhall 16V engines in so engines and boxes are all very reliable. Basically Ginettas own chassis and bodywork, Ginettas own suspension set up but shock/springs are easily attainable from other sources. As said mechanicals are common so you could get parts easily and could be serviced easily by a local garage if you couldn't yourself. A lot of other parts are common to Ford like steering rack/switches/radiator,etc. Ginetta owners club would be a good place to start -

Had one a few years back with a 16V vauxhall in it with 190bhp, bloody fast and good fun !! As you say differnent to the normal 7 route and a bit more practical. Might be a tight squeeze if your a tall chap as my knees were close to the underside of the dash (I'm 6'2''). Fortunately I'm a skinny git as well which helps !!

Believe me the boot is bloody enormous for the class of car (its my car on the G27 build site BTW). I've had a tent, sleeping bag, holdall, toolbag, and full set of golf clubs in (all at the same time). To be fair I did have to take the longest club out of the bag to make the golf clubs fit.
Brilliant cars for the money, buy one.

Certainly is a 27 in the classified ads - thats what got me looking. The G33 on feredaycars is just gorgeous though, always lusted for a V8 and the body look rather nice as well.
Its looks like a nice one too especially with a hard top thrown in (not many of these around). Originally there was the G4 Series 1 then Series 2,etc,etc up until a Series 4 I believe. It evolved into the current G27. You'll see from different pictures that the bonnets are different with different headlights, I think the rest of it pretty much stayed the same. I'msure somebody will be able to give a little more details about its history.
If you got it for the 6K you want to spend i think it would be money well spent !! It looks in good nick, well trimmed, modern engine, hard top........sh*t I might go and buy that !!
