Help needed please!! TDCI Focus

Hi all, recently bought my Mrs a Focus 1.8 TDCI 115bhp, 2004. problem i have is it always felt slow compared to my Fathers same car! it idles smooth,decent mpg,starts first time ect! no smoke to mention either! just dont rev and pull like my Fathers does!
A friend said the MAF???, he unplugged it and told me to try it, no difference at all! so i stopped the engine and opened the bonnet and plugged it back in! then WOW!!! the power was there just as my Fathers car! a massive difference! my question is this! should i buy a new maf? its now performing spot on but was told ECU will soon sense fault with MAF and reduce power once again?????
anyone had this sort of thing?

It could have just been a dodgy connection. Has it been ok since?

Im not much help im afraid but by car behaves exactly the same so i'd be interested to hear how you get on. Im planning to leave and see if it stays ok. If it goes back to low power will try cleaning MAF (quite a lot on google about doing this) if that doesnt work looks like new MAF time - hopefully they arnt too expensive
