Service it well with genuine parts and a decent brand of quality oil - when was the air filter last changed?

It's an average family hatchback with a realistic 0-60 around the 10 second mark on a good day - what sort of level is your expectation set at?

i know what u mean about family car but just want a little more go in it if u know what i mean and as for expectation i havent a clue really lol ---

and i would love to stick a turbo on it but cant see it happening as i have the pleasure of also running my missus car aswell and dont think my insurance would be that great either ---

It should go reasonably well. I've a 1.8 Duratec Mondeo, and it's not slow (well, not Focus 90hp diesel slow, anyway).

Check the plugs have been replaced, often they're not done - when I got my Mondeo with it's full Ford service history, it ran like ass. Got my local mechanic to replace the plugs. They were rusted in, and the electrodes were totally burnt off - he said the plugs were almost definitely the ones it left the factory with. Iridium plugs don't burn out that much in 30k, so he said they must have been there for the 55k from new. New plugs from ECP (Bosch), and it was like a different car.

Also make sure the MAP sensor is working OK, and there's no leaks in the vacuum pipes. You might also want to clean the throttle butterfly.

I'm no expert, but as far as i can gather you aren't going to see any worthwhile BHP gains without spending a lot of money. You say you have to sell your Impreza, is it not an option to keep that and sell the Focus?

i understand where ur coming from about spending loads --

i would love to keep the impreza but i got 2 small children and if im realistic with myself the focus is better for them really as i lost my job and its cheaper to run the focus aswel -
