Looking to buy this ST220... Part II
Discussion
Part I
I have given myself a week off or untill Monday (car insurance on SORN Golf runs out) to find and buy a car. After my Golf GT TDi blew the engine/turbo I have given up on VAG and I am looking for a more reliable, easy driving fun car. Spotted this today.

Must say I had not considered a Ford but after reading up on reviews I am vey tempted to pop along and have a look. Estate would suit my life style, less than 3k miles a year suits my wallet, but before I jump in feet first is there anything I should know, be wary of or be asking?
Thank you all for your earlier replies...
Part II
OK so went to see the car ths afternoon. The car itself is sitting outside of a small showroom, looking very unloved. Unvaleted, it has cobwebs on the door mirrors and the brake discs are all showing signs of not being used ie rust. So ask him how long they have had the car, reply about three weeks.
Quick look around and to my untrained eye the car looks good. Inside all electrics are fine, complete service history (Sanderson Ford) two previous owners. The only downside is some wear on the drivers side bolster, again unvaleted the leather looks dull but in decent nick.
Asked to be taken for a drive, forgot to take any insurance docs!. Being mechanically challenged there is nothing I could pick out as being obviously amiss. Very short, sedate run out of about 1 mile? Sounded nice, noisier in the cabin than I was expecting, but after driving a MK4 Golf GT TDi who cares!!
Told him I had this/next week to find a car and obviously looking for the right car.
Asked if there was room for negotiation with cash? Yes! (Car showing 4295 on forecourt, 3995 on EBay)
So being very inexperienced in this area what would you guys suggest I do next. Do I try and
find a specialist to inspect the car...? how far do you think you could haggle the price down...?
Trying to resist my usual impulsivness to rush out and buy it (spoiling the day for the guy from Bristol who phoned up this morning
)

)Drivers bolsters do wear, but you can get that sorted.
Wheels are missing Ford logos...
Exhaust looks in good nick for a 53 plater. Has it been replaced?
Check the door bottoms for rust...
Check the central locking and boot release buttons all work.
Check the history to ensure the spark plugs were changed at 70k - or get them done. When was the oil last changed? These things like fresh oil...
Dave, Kidders and the others will certainly add to this...

I think it could be a bit cheaper going on what your saying tbh.
220's are very cheap at the minute, people are scared by the 'high' (in comparison to a diesel) fuel costs.
Watch out for lower bumper cracks and scrapes, jacking point covers go missing, wheels are prone to cracking and corrosion and the metal valves leak air out too.
Split breather pipes are common, sump gaskets often leak.
They are a pretty sound car though but it must have regular oil changes, any sign of neglect i would walk away.
