Hey

Thinking of buying one of these in the next few weeks and really looking for some advice from owners or people who've had experience? Using it as main commuting car (motorway miles etc) and for putting the bicycle in etc.

It would be the "newer" model (not the older ST version/model). Had been considering a VW Passat estate around the same age but was turned off with injector failures etc which cost a fortune to relace.

Any thoughts on what to look out for (ask/ensure) when dealing?

Thanks!

We have a 2009 Mondeo 2.0 Edge (145ps petrol). It has been very reliable and nothing has gone wrong save the weather strip on top of the door sill on one side has fallen off through being kicked and trodden on by kids and are held on by the flimsiest clips known to plastic. We left ours off and it doesn't leak.

Other than that, nothing to report. It does about 32mpg on average. We bought a petrol brand new for £12000 as they were practically giving them away - a diesel would have cost us about £6000 more at least.

My only real criticism of the car is too many blind spots and it's hard to see out the back (we have the hatch so the estate might be better) and it's a very big car.

Check the air con, renound for being poor on this car - get a regas in the deal if possible. it'll still be crap though... Other than that, no issues with mine and it's a nice spacious cruiser. I would buy another.
Look for one with roof rails as there's no mounting points on the roof and after market racks have to wrap around into the door apperture look a bit crap.
Avoid the 1.8 diesel if you want a bit of pace as it's a bit of a slug but fine once you get going. Also, avoid the 18'' alloys unless you want to be forking out hundreds/year on the pricey tyres. As mentioned, it's a big car so parking sensors are very useful, especially if it has privacy glass as you can see fk all out of it night!
