DMF Failure - Cost to Repair

When you say you can feel it in the pedal what exactly is it that you feel?
I've just bought a zetec-s and i got no history with it so i'm not sure if it's ever been replaced or not.
Quite a common fault i'm led to believe?
There is some travel in the peddle, and also the peddle sometimes sticks, then pops up. The more noticeable symptom is the rattle on cold starts. Mine is early stage, so it will get much worse and I dare say many leave it.I've just bought a zetec-s and i got no history with it so i'm not sure if it's ever been replaced or not.

Bear in mind that this is a specific issue with DMF's, and part the reason they are there is to prevent the high torque levels of modern diesel engines damaging the transmission. Therefore you probably want to check if they use DMF's in the smaller engine cars.

Why would i want to know about smaller engined cars when i have a Mondeo? what a tit... For some reason I had a reading failure of some kind and read Zetec S as Fiesta! If your car is around 80K the expect it some time soon
I read up on this problem when I had a Jaguar X type TDCi . It didn't affect me in the end but at the time I was looking into it there was lots of info on doing away with the dual mass flywheel and getting an aftermarket solid one which would be much less problematic , and significantly cheaper IIRC

Hmm i'm at 87k just now, doesn't seem to be any rattles or noises though.I'll try to find out more about the history of the car this weekend.
Good luck. The problems seem to occur more frequently with runabouts rather than motorway slags. Mine started about 1K ago and is probably about 5K from failure, but I use it all the time and don't want itvto die on me...paulmoonraker said:
