Hi, I'm an ST-3 owner, '55 plate. Had it since April 2008 and still really happy with it. Not really had anything go wrong with it to be honest, had a maf sensor go which cost about £45.00 for the part (I think) and then a few hours to have it fitted. Had the Mountune upgrade which really opens up the go tap.

Sounds great, has all the usual ST-3 trimmings, full leather Recaro's, tints, electric everything, heated seats, quick clear screen which is a God send, 6 speed box, nice and quick, easy to keep on the road and can carry 4 people around with all the luggage no problem.

What more could you ask for?

What age of car?

We ran an 07 and it was trouble-free. Fitted 3" turbo-back system, larger intercooler, K&N, DreamScience remap, RS clutch and flywheel, Quaife diff and nitrous. Was pretty lively.

Sounded good, drove well and liked petrol.

Try and find one thats been pampered and has no signs of accident damage. Also check the clutch is not slipping.

Mine was new when i bought it and has no issues in the 2 and a half years i owned it. I dont know if there are any common faults appearing now though.

Great cars, i averaged 26mpg.

All good so far, seems like a good car to go for.

Is there much difference between the spec levels ?

Ideally I would like a 3 door in white

I think there were only 2 spec levels, ST2 - cloth trimmed seats etc, ST3 - full leather etc (I'm not entirely sure what else was different to be honest, I do know that mine had the green illuminated in dash Sony 6 cd changer but if you bought the facelift model after 2007 I think, it was changed so that the head unit, although still 6 cd, could play mp3 disks). Also, even mine has a plug in aux socket in the glove box so you can play ipod and mp3 players through it (certainly mp3 player as that's what I do with mine).

You should be able to get them for a good price as don't forget, the new ST is due out some time next year.

We went for ST3 as it's decent spec and leather. Only 4 seats though, bear in mind.

Having only 4 seats is fine with me, im a single male with no children etc.

There were actually 3 spec levels on the pre-facelift. ST 1, 2 & 3. The ST1 didnt have Xenons (hence no headlight washers), a basic sterreo & no ESP.

The facelift only had ST2 & ST3.

I went for an ST3 3dr in grey, 2007 pre-facelift with smoked xenons. Pic in my garage.

Nope, facelift cars also include a standard ST which now has Traction Control and ESP

I know because I own one. No xenons, Ford stereo (which is pretty good) or LED rear lights.

OP, you DO want an electric orange car. It is THE st colour .

tongue out

Watch out for the usual things; accident damage, oil filter housing diaphragm issues, drivers seat movement (there's a bar which can break on earlier cars and there's a fix for lateral movement on facelift cars), make sure the turbo boosts normally (it will boost just over half way on the gauge if the car is standard; any more it will have been mapped), driveshaft can start to click, etc. etc.

Do your research on focus st owners, it's a good, friendly and well informed website but you will have to pay £8 to join

PS, my car is for sale; completely standard mint 09 with 8k in ORANGE with absolutely no issues. You'll struggle to find better.

Happy hunting.

I've had mine since March last year, black 5 door, 07 ST-3, pictures and mod spec in my garage.

Only problems I've had go wrong with it, have been a blown oil filter diaphragm, which has caused my camshaft oil seals to go aswell. Drivers side CV boot went, and the locking mechanism on the bonnet gave up. Just waiting for the alternator and MAF sensor to go next :P lol

Buy a standard ST, then get the Mountune Kit, (chip and exhaust).

Sound and power is amazing. I have also owned a Mark 2 RS and the ST was nearly as good but for half the money. Run it standard for a few months then get the mountune done. that will make you fall in love all over again.

don't bother get at least a ST2.

Xenons, Sony CD Player, Heated Screen.

The ST1 looks like a Fiesta inside.

She dosen't want to spend more than £3500, so I think the ST2 is out of her price range, and anyway why should I chop my golf in just for her, huh!

Unless you're getting a newish car which still has Ford Warranty on it, I wouldn't bother with Mountune personally, there are plenty of other credible tuning avenues that can be done, without having to have your pants down and bent over a barrel by Mountune. Especially if you can get alot of the stuff 2nd hand from the owners club.
