Replacing middle part of steering wheel - Mk6 Fiesta

Firstly, not a car buff by any stretch so please excuse my terminology!!
I've recently picked up a Mk6 facelift fiesta and the "middle" bit of the steering wheel - i think it's the bit that houses the airbag - either way it's the bit with the ford badge on...well it's not in very good nick, some of the plastic peeling off etc, so i'd like to replace it.
Do i need to replace the entire airbag? Looking around on eBay they go for about 50-60 quid. Quite steep when all i want to do is replace the bit of plastic that's not been looked after...
Any suggestions? If I do have to replace the whole airbag is this something I can do myself or should I be taking it to an expert?
