If anyone can help, would be appreciated.

My sis's Focus turbo has just failed. Car is still driveable but lacking power, she's been quoted about £1900 to get the repair done. She doesn't have the cash to do it so asked me for advice, I not knowing much about focus's have turned to you lot for help!

I guess I want to know is this the going rate for the turbo replacement? If so, can anyone recommend a garage around Shorpe to do the job?

Her other option is to get rid of the car and use it as part exchange, would a garage take it or would they want her to do the repair and bring it back?

She needs the car for work and she's on the east coast, I'm as far west as possible otherwise I'd help her out.

I've started reading about 55 plate focus's and it seems a common problem, she also said that when it was last serviced they mentioned the DPS filter will need replacing soon at a cost of £1000! So is it worth keeping the car at all? I think it has around 75k on the clock, probably worth around £4 - £4.5k tops?

Any help appreciated.

thanks Dave

symptoms of the turbo fail??

little story for you.

FMD suggested that my sisters galaxy had lunched its turbo, this is after many failed attempts by them to cure the lack of power issue.

They quoted around £700 + vat for the replacement turbo but as a gesture of good will labour at no charge!

I had a look over the car turbo shaft good, no oil being used, intake tract oil free...to me turbo looked good.

So after a bit of a net trawl info suggested could be the MAF sensor.

I replaced the MAF total cost £86 ....it was like driving a completely new car power restored back to where it should be.

1600cc tdci turbo failure is very common it's normally caused by the oil pick up in the sump becoming partially blocked does issued a tsb regarding the problem a while back.

It can be done lots cheaper as ford will change lots of bits that won't be needed. It will need the oil feed pipe sump & oil pick up replacing at the same time as the turbo.
